This morning, Hume’s colleagues on the Fox Business network decided to do a little digging into his claims. The Don Imus show crew reported that Hume doesn’t quite have his facts straight on Buddhism:

IMUS: Well, we checked this morning and unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately if you are a Buddhist, there is a path to recovery and redemption. Right? Well yes there is. The idea of redemption — nirvana under Buddhism — is achieving the state of being freed from greed, hate, and delusion.

2. Someone please send Brit Hume a comparative religions textbook
Not only are pseudoChristians ignorant about their own faith...picking and choosing scripture to suit their own ends...they know nothing about other faiths! :banghead:

18. although athiests don't know much about other faiths either
Someone should plaster Hume's car (does he have one?) with Coexist bumper stickers

as for Don Imus, he's not a far right nut case. He does have a heart. Although I do wish he wasn't on a channel nobody watches.

6. Stroke-like
Has Hume always slurred his words so much? And his face, especially around the mouth, looks extra droopy.

10. Now...I REALLY don't give a shit what imus thinks about anything!
I'm sorry...that stupid ass cowboy hat says it all to me. Goat ropers are about as cow-shit-stupid as they come, and there is probably no bigger proof that this moron is a goat roper than that dumb ass ten gallon hat.

Won't even bother listening to the video, but further than that...why would anybody care what this ass wipe had to say about anything. I would sooner give a shit what lars larson has to say about helping the poor. This is pathetic.

Nominated for "biggest waste of time video".

the posts and wondered how I would respond to the clip and OP I came to your post. Dueling assholes! Perfectly said.

Can you imagine the outrage if someone suggested that Christianity was deficient in some way.

16. Exactly! Perish the thought!
Once a year, Christians drag dead trees into their homes and sit in front of those trees, while they eat candy from their socks. They don't see it that way, of course. But neither do they recognize the hubris of their own willful ignorance and insensitivity, when it comes to other belief systems--or lack thereof.

is a friggin' toady himself. It's very hard to tell who or what he is fighting for, if anything for that matter. I think he's sides with whomever is winning.

13. "Redemption" is a poor choice of words IMO
The concept that everyone is born with "Original Sin" is a Christian/Catholic concept. The idea that we're all born "dirty" hence need to be saved is not in Buddhism. Nirvana is more a state of enlightenment that leads to ecstasy and one-ness with the universe. Neither Hume nor Imus bothered to have one real Buddhist on to explain. There are four "noble truths" and eight "paths to enlightenment" which Imus touched on.

http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/5minbud.htm

I was born into and raised Roman Catholic, have read the entire Bible (yes, even the begats.) Believed in it and was even a bit of a "Jesus Freak" for a while in high school, yet always had unanswered questions. Found Hindu and Buddhist belief systems through a book about yoga at age 18, had a truly profound "Aha!" moment. To me, it is logical and natural.

Shout out to the other DUers with Dalai Lama avatars. <:hi:>

THANK YOU!

The stupid idea of "original sin" is a Paulian fantasy. Buddhism offers a path to enlightenment, not redemption.

Abrahamic faiths are the most infantile and unthinking of all! Good vs evil...how childish. It's not a sport, y'know. Try yin and yang....or some concept of balance. That actually jives with the real world.... where nothing is all good or all evil.

But all those rituals and stuff of both religions are so much mumbo jumbo. Still, human behavior seems to relish ritual so....

22. Indeed.
As a Buddhist I have to say to those who put down Imus, any method of spreading the Dharma is fine with me. For an uninitiated person, he (or his staff) did okay. I imagine Brit Hume has received more than a few messages from Buddhists attempting to correct his misunderstanding. And that's a good thing. Maybe in his next incarnation he will endure just a tiny bit less suffering.

Whatever your religion, if you have one, please pray for peace.
