8. forgiveness in Christianity is not "conditional" |
|
Ummm.... yes it is.
Damn! Has there ever been a religion who's "followers" don't get it as much as Christianity? There IS a condition. See if you can guess what it might be.
I tell ya, "Christians" will make up any damn thing to avoid the unpleasantries of Christian doctrine
Utterly ridiculous.

I'm not a christian by any normal definition. But Buchanan said that forgiveness "in Christianity" is conditional on making some efforts to reform one's self. Which is doctrinally wrong on its face.
That is the context in which my statement is made. Forgiveness, for a Christian, is achieved not through any individual effort. Forgiveness, doctrinally, is a free gift of God to an individual. Now, various denominations then go on to specify the relative importance of faith vs. works for salvation, but forgiveness is not predicated on anything other than it being offered.
Of course, you do have to be a Christian for it to be offered, in most interpretations. But the operative word phrase is "forgiveness in Christianity", not forgiveness in general.
I don't care whether you believe Christian forgiveness is a real thing. I don't think it is, or that it means anything. As far as I am concerned, it's just words. But those words have an historical sense and range of application and Buchanan's interpretation (and your own) is incorrect.

religion or lack thereof.
Forgiveness is total. Once given, there are several aspects that pertain to it:
One who is forgiven, should not do the same transgression again
The forgiver, can not hold the forgiven transgression against the forgiven in the future
Forgiveness is not the property of any specific religion, society, culture, sect, non-religion or anything else...except that it is universal and can be accepted or rejected by the parties involved.
Forgiveness, in it's purest form, is one of the most difficult things a human mind can comprehend. The totality of it goes against human nature. This is why it is so misunderstood and rarely encountered in the grand scheme of things.
edit: dumb typo

12. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about Christianity. |
|
Nothing against it, I just wish they would pray in private like the Bible says and leave the rest of us alone.
We went straight from this year's asinine "War On Christmas" directly to this "Tiger should be saved" crap. Turning on the TV news is getting to be like opening your front door and finding a herd of Jehovah's Witnesses ready to pounce.
