Riz Khan and guests follow up on People & Power's documentary "White Power USA", an insightful and disturbing examination of the current growth of white supremacist groups in the US.

With the election of the first African American President Barack Obama, a failing economy and anti-immigrant sentiment on the rise, some activists are calling it the perfect storm for recruitment by racist organisations.

Supremacist groups are reportedly targeting soldiers returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as trying to become part of 'mainstream' conservatism by organizing around the 'Tea Party' movement.

Producer of "White Power USA" Rick Rowley, Leonard Zeskind, the author of Blood Politics, who has studied the history of supremacist groups for more than 30 years and Chip Berlet, analyst and investigator of white supremicist groups, join the show.

As this economy turns down, there will be bands and gangs. I cannot provide any studies but I believe that home-invaders are more likely to attack their own race, much like serial killers. So, a word to all the white supremists expecting the black gangs to attack them; in fact, your attackers in such a scenario will probably be a white gang, with a 30-40 yr old leader and a pack of younger whites in the ranks.

You cannot be "aware" of what's in the two programs without actually watching them. It's a well made documentary which covers recent developments, so knowing what's been going on for decades has little to do with it.

What's truly "futile" is talking to people who blatantly admit they don't know what they are talking about but use circular logic trying to make out that they do. You came into this thread making assumptions about what's in these videos, make ridiculous sweeping statements about them and are now defending not knowing what's in them by saying it would make you ill.

1. The KKK and other racist groups have a very long history in this country, going back all the way to slavery days. The fear of terrorists red flag that the Republicons use is new, perhaps going back as far as the 1992 world trade center bombing. The real movement didn't take off until 9/11. So, terror and fearing Muslims is a very new tactic for the Republicons.

2. The KKK is a home grown terrorist group while Muslim extremists are an exterior threat.

3. The KKK and other racist groups are the same people who bomb abortion clinics and wave the terrorist threat. They are the same ones who join the Nazi parties and hate Jews, Catholics, feminists (especially ones that want abortions or provide abortions), blacks, muslims immigrants and anyone different from them. The "fear the muslim" red flag is just another path for their hate mongering.

But the people who despise and fear the KKK, and hate mongering organizations are not going around killing Them Evil Redneck Klan Boys.

KKK groups hate just about everyone. While people who despise the KKK don't go around bombing and murdering their hate targets. They don't lynch people, bomb federal facilities or have shoot outs with law enforcement. Basically, people who despise the KKK are NOT CRAZY.
