I guess 60 Minutes this week will be must-see-TV... John McCain's former top campaign strategist reveal behind-the-scenes issues from the McCain/Palin presidential campaign.

She is a Christian Fundamentalist and thought it was her duty. Funny, I remember some guys in Germany who had the same idea.

and generally put women in christofascist funded chastity belts (*ha*)

Same guys in Germany touted Christian nationalism and instituted kinder, kirsche, kuchen schools for Aryan girls. Also encouraged the girls to "offer" themselves to good Nazi soldiers.

6. Palin was woefully inadequate to be VP. She didn't have an intellectual prowess to handle
complicated discussion. Anyone with an average IQ, heck, even those with just common sense, knew she wasn't too swift!

Her ignorant banter in answering questions was laughable.

14. A lot of people's spoken sentences would look pretty bad if they were written down.
People lose their train of thought, go off on tangents, back up and repeat themselves, etc. I've read linguists saying that her speeches are much more understandable in person than they are when written down word for word.

And she did graduate from college, which is something only about a fourth of the population manages to do. So she's not an idiot.

17. Whether she is or is not an idiot is not the question.
The question is could she carry out the duties of the president?

If she was not focused enough on the details of facts and policy to prepare for a debate, she would not be focused enough to carry out the duties of a president of the United States.

One of the strengths of President Obama and previously of President Clinton is and was their ability to master the facts and policy details to make intelligent decisions.

If you watch Michael Moore's movie, Capitalism, A Love Story, you will see a scene in which Don Regan stands next to President Reagan and coaches him on what to say. We saw Lieberman doing that with George W. Bush at one point also.

Like Reagan and GWB, Palin is being coached on how to fool people into thinking that she could handle the presidency. She couldn't. She has even less ability, less experience, less mastery of policy and facts than either Reagan or GWB. And neither of them really had the capacity to handle the office.

Palin is not an idiot, but she is not experienced or intelligent or well informed enough to be president or vice president. And it will take a lot more than seven years to get her to that point.

But I think that the average American's intelligence level is similar to hers - and so they don't see her as being as ill qualified as most of us do.

That took a lot more colleges and time compared to the vast majority of students who graduate.

Hawaii Pacific University - 1982
North Idaho College - 1983
University of Idaho - 1984, 1985

43. Palin precisely matches the dictionary definition of "inarticulate".
inarticulate

1. lacking the ability to express oneself, esp. in clear and effective speech: an inarticulate public speaker.

I have never once heard "clear and effective speech" from Palin. I have to assume that she "lacks the ability to express herself" in this manner. Ergo, she is inarticulate.

Language is thought. When Sarah speaks, you are hearing her "thought" processes, expressed out loud. Think about that for a moment!

39. With all due respect, pnwmom. . .
I don't want my president to be described as merely "not an idiot."

I want my president to be described only in superlatives.

I want him or her to be able to watch television, solve The New York Times Sunday Crossword puzzle (in ink), and animatedly participate in three different conversations all at the same time.

I want him or her to be able to call Stephen Hawking and discuss how to make A Short History of Time better and more error-free.

Whenever my president walks into a room, I want to be able to describe him or her as the smartest and cleverest person in that room. Always.

Merely wanting the job and thinking you can do it isn't enough.

Best regards, Wally

46. College isn't what it used to be
Nowadays, a majority of young people attend some college, and graduating is a more a matter of having enough money to keep paying for courses. This is especially true of people who attend multiple colleges and extend their B.A. to six or seven or eight years. So just from her education, you can categorize her as just average in intelligence. Then there is her acceptance of whacky, fundamentalist clap-trap. That drops her down to sub-average, probably on a par with George W. In his case, family money did a LOT to cover over what is an uninquisitive, dull mind.

32. I always thought that the GOP was not interested in winning in 08
Let McCain run for president and take the fall (he is too damned stupid to know better), plus they were also throwing him a bone to make up for how he was put under the bus to make way for Bush in the 2000 primaries. I think Palin was a safety to make sure that grandpa lost.

Given how Obama has been so quick to own Bush's fuckups, and how the GOP is still getting their legislation passed... I am beginning to think the assholes are far smarter that I once gave them credit. Because they sure seem to be playing the Dems like a fiddle. The midterms will tell the story, if Obama loses the 2 houses he will be rendered useless and in typical GOP fashion they will get to blame their own fuckups on the black guy.

8. While that might worry wonks and strategists
Palin's being unfocused and disengaged doesn't worry her supporters, at all. These are people who listen to the never ending verbal torrent of word salad and think she's intelligent and articulate. They recognize catch phrases and buzzwords here and there and think she's saying exactly what they think. Her supporters are neither intelligent nor sophisticated and Palin is just who they're looking for, someone they fantasize is just like them, only a little better, and who will represent their point of view.

Low information, emotional voters scare the hell out of me and so does Palin. I saw a B-actor and a fake cowboy ne'er do well get into office when intelligent people thought they had no chance. Useful idiots with charisma are very, very dangerous.

While I think party bosses would rather turn the whole dirty tricks apparatus on her than have her be the GOP candidate, she just might be a major threat as a third party nominee, pulling the dimwit vote from both parties.

None of the election fraud, ballot irregularities or anything else came close to helping Bush as much as Nader did.

Nader didn't give a damn about the country. He just wanted to prove that he could single-handedly turn an election -- and he did.

I will be glad if I have a non corporatist to vote for in 2012. I think it is important not to capitulate on the critical stuff like government for the People, I wish there was a whole Party who thought like me. But if enough of us don't demand it, non of us will ever get it. Nader has proven his whole life that he gives a damn. I don't vote to try to be on the winning side, I vote to express my political will. In 2000, I wasn't about to fall behind an active participant in an administration that gave healthcare a half-assed try, furthered banking deregulation, supported corporate welfare while not supporting human welfare, sucked up to China, and gave us NAFTA, but that was just me. If you keep voting for it, that's what you'll keep getting.

56. Meh. The GOP just wants to stop her in 2012
I think the GOP knows you can't win an election just with their base, and their base is the only group that likes Palin. Everyone else who pays more than 5 minutes of attention knows she is an idiot.

It is must see TV, but it is just to pave the way for someone else in 2012. No idea who. Romney, Pawlenty, not sure.

As far as the 08 election being set to be lost, the voters picked McCain (not the party) in the primary. So it wasn't a conspiracy. As for Palin I think she was recommended by neocons like Norquist and Kristol, people who are well known for not living in reality. So I don't think it was a conspiracy to lose that she was picked.

In fact, for a few weeks after she was picked 538.com had McCain winning the election with about 55% probability. Luckily when Palin opened her mouth and showed what an idiot she was the election went back to Obama. But at the end of the day, that is how dumb our country is. After 8 years of Bush people were rearing to elect McCain because he picked Palin as his VP. Thank god she was so blatantly incompetent that some of the voters changed their minds.
