John Edwards at Beatitude House, Part 1 |
|
This is part 1 of a discussion between John Edwards and women at a transitional housing facility for women who have been homeless in Youngstown, Ohio. Edwards visited Beatitude House as part of his Road to One America Tour on Tuesday. Part 2 of the discussion is here.

JRE wants to know what their problems are and what to do to help by listening. Differs so much from that goof ball who was on a campaign tour 2 years ago to privatize social security and heard a woman instead who said she was working 3 jobs. Gotta love that, in which goof ball says, "well, that's great."
Why is the media continuing to only have sensationist articles and less on substance such as this CJ video and report? Thank goodness for bloggers who ARE our 5th estate.

Thanks so much for sharing this.
John Edwards really is the one. He has the most issue lead ideas that are to help many many people.
Thank you for covering this and helping get this out to us. It is so sad to me that the Main Stream Media missed sharing this tour with millions of people.

I just don't understand people who dog him on poverty issues. I mean, here he is talking to these women, like he really gives a damn. The video quality is so poor, it's not like it was a staged press event. It's not like these women were going to give him any money for his campaign. He wasn't addressing a large crowd trying to win new supporters. Even if one questions his motives on poverty, I challenge them to come up with a reason he would do this if he didn't really care. If you think this is him trying to get elected, I must say, it seems pretty lame as a campaign strategy to go around with no press cameras talking to small groups of people with no money.

4. Well, to be totally fair... |

National media were there. They're just not reporting on it, as far as I can tell.

I watched Part II and he acknowledged the media there. But, did you notice how he said HE wouldn't be answering questions, but the ladies there would?
I guess the media isn't reporting on it. You know, it's much more interesting to pick apart his lifestyle and call him a hypocrite than to report on what he's trying to do. I find it interesting that people who are doing nothing attack him for not doing more. Perhaps that's easier than for them to do something themselves.

I was there. I was the one who took these videos. When he asked if anyone wanted to ask those women a question, I felt bad that nobody did, but I couldn't think of a question that didn't seem too personal. I'm a bit shy about speaking up sometimes, anyway. What I really wanted to tell them was that I was impressed with their strength.
The reason I went on this tour that day was because the media either isn't covering him or is saying unfair things about him. I'm sick and tired of them calling him a hypocrite when he spends every day of his life speaking out about poverty and trying to build a movement to end poverty. I wanted to go so that someone would report on these events fairly, even if it's only me.

I was not kind to the video quality. I am rightfully ashamed and should have known better than to put that in my post!

I know the quality isn't great. I didn't mind what you said. It's because I don't have a real video camera and I use my digital still camera that also takes videos, but the memory is limited. If I want to be able to take more than half an hour of video, I have to set it on the low quality setting, which it was on when I took these, since I was recording several Edwards events that day.

John Edwards believes in the value of all Americans, and he has strong plans to create opportunities to lift them out of poverty. It is sad to know that there are so, many many people who need this help. A lot of people are counting on John. It is so important that he wins the election. I do not trust anyone else to come through for these people..... for all of us.

So touching and true - be inspired, you are the future of journalism, thank you so much for being there and recording this. I agree with bettync, I trust Edwards fully, and there isn't another candidate out there doing what he's doing, listening and providing solutions to real problems that can face all of us...
