Thom Hartmann and Alex Jones |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-10-10 03:25 AM by lyonspotter
******NOTE: Thom Hartmann has a discussion in 4 parts on Alex Jones' broadcast back in April 09. I would kindly draw the moderators attention to the fact that Hartmann appears here on DU with great frequency as a progressive voice. Given that fact, Hartmann's willingness to have an interview with Jones gives credibility to Jones. Thank you for your consideration. ========================= Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnzWanG7DeQ3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuLYLgV6tao4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcyWLLvNbV4

1. Alex Jones is a very interesting specimen. |
|
He's one of the few voices from the right which actually makes sense every now and again. Only problem is, it's not necessarily worth slogging through the 80% weird to get to the 20% spot-on.
This is an interesting interview, though, and I thank you for posting it. I'm a huge Thom Hartmann fan. :)

2. You're welcome. ...80 / 20... No one has it spot-on with all issues... |

...but this is (like you said) a tremendous discussion between two extremely interesting political minds.

3. Funny how, about eight minutes into the final video, |
|
Mr. Jones went and said yet another thing I wanted to punch him in the nose for.
He implied that welfare is a means to allow black families to disintegrate so that they don't have to take care of themselves.
:wtf:
As if there would be less dysfunctional and/or single parent families in the inner cities without welfare?
That shit was totally unnecessary. Otherwise, it was worth watching the whole thing.

4. It depends on how you interpret those sorts of remarks... |

...whenever he speaks like that, he always says it with the tone that he feels the elite do such things as a privation, as a way to keep poor people down. In no way would he argue, not in my many years of listening and watching, that welfare is the best opportunity for those who use it. From Jones perspective, he always bemoans the fact that better opportunity is not there for families who are on welfare, and he will always place the blame on the selfish elites, of which he has a strong critique of Reagan, Bush, and the neocons...as well as the left. He sees through what he calls 'the false right-versus-left' paradigm.

6. So, there's something wrong with having a good progressive like Thom Hartmann here |
|
just because he's sharing the spotlight with a conservative?
Did you bother watching all three parts to see what went on during the simulcast, at least?
No emoticons here. No bullshit, either.

7. Whoa, hold on folks... |

...I'm not sure I understand the rift here, between the 'sarcastic' comment and the response.
I placed the disclaimer of the initial post in order to to assert that if Alex Jones is a 'conspiracy theorist' (ooooh, let's all be scared), then why is a respected progressive like Thom Hartmann having an interview with him? My disclaimer was a request for the moderators to be kind enough to let the discussion stay on DU.
What is most interesting is that Jones asserts the elephant-in-the-room claim that Obama completely duped the public (in clip 1) and lied on a myriad of things in his campaign, and Hartmann does everything he can to not use the word "lie"...but Hartmann ultimately goes on to agree with Jones on this point! The next point Jones raises is that the Left-versus-Right paradigm is false, a mirage, pure theater(!), and the people behind the façade that are actually in charge are the corporations, Military Industrial Complex, the banks., etc. Jones is more of a Constitutionalist/libertarian than a "conservative"...(he didn't vote for "McCain 08", in other words).
