I checked out the video and, ironically, even though my wife and I are theists there are many comments in that video we've also made and probably will continue to make.

One of the biggest tests to our belief structure came during the prior bush years. All those alleged xtians running around misquoting the bible for their own agendas almost brought us to the edge.

however...

There is ONE axiom we use and only one when it comes to human behavior vs. God belief - we don't make conclusions about God in light of any human behavior or events that occur. My own were formulated, at least in the beginning of my walk, with the ontological and philosophical arguments supporting God belief. First Cause, Unmoved Mover (Aquinas) were merely a few that enabled me to come to a conclusion.

If I were to base my beliefs on the aholes I see around me I would be a total atheist by now..

I assume you are fairly new to DU...If not, then I guess just a plain "hello" will do. I know some people have been here for years but hardly ever post.

Anyway, I am one of those godless heathens! LOL! I just wanted to tell you how nice it is to me to read your comment about how you approach belief in a god. I wish more "believers" took the same approach as you do. And to say there is nothing wrong with letting go of all belief in the supernatural! Come on over to the dark side! LOL!

12. The Dark Side?

I'm not really new over here - just didn't post in the past due to time constraints.
And some of my best friends (the few that I have) are heathens so welcome to the club!
Lastly - why would you invite me into some place where I'm already a proud resident? (the dark side). At least that's what the church people think about my wife and me.

And know something? I wouldn't have it any other way!

Actually, I'm more sure of her love than I am about God's plan(s). LOL
She's very camera shy - I keep trying to get her to open up more. One time, off camera, she did an INCREDIBLE impersonation of that nut job Orly Taitz - the one who keeps harping about Obama's birth certificate. She floored me with her depiction and I've been begging her to go on camera and do it in a skit where she would be interviewed by Gov. Arnold (me). I think it would be a riot but she's still resisting it, for now.

And you're the 2nd person who told me about the Carlin thing - I'm humbled by it because he was absolutely fantastic. That skit he did about the earth being able to regurgitate out plastic while destroying us is a classic.

But Carlin did a lot of things that are memorable.
the one I most remember is the one comparing football and baseball....probably not many noticed it but it was an introspective look at us as a people.
But that is what I loved abut him...he was a serious funny man.

One that I remember that cracked me up was while he was doing his monologue he said out of the blue..."Why is there no blue food?"
And he went back to the monologue.
I don't know why that struck me so funny but it did...it was like we were suddenly seeing a thought coming into his mind and it just came out.

Re: Manifest Destiny - I actually read an essay written by an xtian in which he totally supported this view and said something akin to "God allowed the whites to subjegate Native Americans" because it was better for all people concerned. I was astounded and replied that his view is no different than the Nazis' rational/philosophical arguments for exterminating Jews, Gypsies, Gays, and other people.

Naturally I was banned from his blog...
