21. This happened to Bush many times. |
|
Nobody here called for the imprisonment of Bush speech disruptors. When that occurred people here hailed the person as an example of free speech and bravery. This is the exact same thing. I do not support the message this person delivered, I do not appreciate the way it was delivered, and I approve of them being removed from the event. Regardless, there is no need to imprison someone for this. I consider it a childish outburst just as I did when the same thing happened during a Bush speech. I was embarrassed when people praised childish disruptions then. I am equally embarrassed when the same site that was so supportive of people doing this then calls for the imprisonment of someone who does it now.
Sometimes political discourse is ugly or unpleasant. That doesn't mean one side should receive differing treatment for the same acts.

All of Bush's events were screened. Nobody could get in without being on a list. It was rare indeed when anyone at a Bush event protested due to this very tight screening.

|
It is also rare to see this sort of thing at an Obama event. It does happen though and it did happen with Bush. The point I made is the same regardless. Escort the person out. That is the right action. Calling for them to go to jail is ridiculous and hypocritical on this site.

Nor did you answer my question. Besides, whenever someone is arrested like this they always go to jail, if only for the short while it take for somebody to come down and pay their bond.

Look at all the money Rep. Joe Wilson raked in for his unprecedented "You lie" interruption. It will be ugly.

I will not be surprised or outraged if they do the same to Obama. In fact, I expect it. Makes it more interesting.

All these while people won't recognize that the dems were doing it not so long ago. Makes me laugh. Some people... :eyes:

You can go on youtube and watch his adresses. Dem reps and other officials "boo" him along with other interruptions. It is not an opinion - there is proof this happened. Please educate yourself.
There's also the shoe-thrower, but that was just some random guy.

I don't remember any Democratic politician crying "liar" or any other such name while he gave addresses to the House or Senate.
As far as public speeches, they had a vicious screening process of anyone who entered. Tickets were carefully handed out to party members only. There was more than one case of members having to swear an oath of allegiance to the GOP. Others were not allowed entry for having the wrong bumper sticker.
BushCo. also made sure that there was a full regiment of armed soldiers behind him giving the illusion that if you spoke out against him, you would also be bashing the troops.
He had to go to Iraq to get a shoe thrown at him.

|
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 06:38 PM by OneTenthofOnePercent
There is no screening of congress members at SOTU addresses. Democrats did disrespect Bush during his state of the union addresses - look it up. I distincly remember loud mumuring, booing, and the refusual to stand or clap during one SOTU address. I was taken aback personally at the lack of respect (even if only for decorum).
This subthread touched on the GOP likely interrupting Obama duing something like the State of the union address. I am not talking about public outbursts during presidential speeches - all presidents have public detractors. I merely commented that the Dems did it to Bush during his address so why expect any different in return in coming addresses. If you want to contribute, please try to keep up.

It happens on both sides. There appear to several incidents of a breach-in-decorum in recent history. I just posted that, in all fairness, it should come as no surprise if/when they do it to Obama. It's certainly true that they did to Clinton, we did to Bush, and they'll do it to Obama. Life goes on...

during a state of the union address is not a breach of decorum. Booing is. Bellowing that the President of the United States is a liar during that address most definitely was and was also a breach of congressional protocol. That knuckle walking Republican troglodyte Joe Wilson should have been removed by the Sargent at Arms and censured for it.

7. Sounds like more than one |
|
At least two. The first was a man and that woman standing and screaming was another.
Sounds like they are using the same Health Care debate disruption tactics. One stands up and yells and then another and then another, nicely spaced out in the audience.
Its the "La La La" (fingers over the ears) tactic. The "I don't want to hear anything other than my own prejudices back at me" and taking it to another level of "And no one else will be allowed to hear them either"
I fear this will be used from now on at every Democratic speaking function.

Just a shame these people have no respect for a speaker and especially the President of the United States of America. Hopefully they will receive a LOUD knock on their front door very soon.
