4. Thanks for the recs guys. I love when she refused to allow a question.
I loved the poster of Osama Bin Laden, and a reminder to Bush what he looks like. She rocked!

5. Too conservative for me, but...
...she did a magnificent job putting all her cards on the table and calling out Mitch McChinless and the other obstructionists in the GOP. Good that Louisiana has at least one decent Senator. Here in North Carolina, both of our Senators suck out loud.

8. You tell em' Mary....
...and I especially like the way you pasted those smarmy panty-waists from Tennessee. Where unfortunately I must admit that they are from my state. We Blues-in-the-Red of Tennessee apologize.

K&R!!!

22. Thanks!

Ella Wheeler Wilcox wasn't as notable as some, in the sense that she was a reformer or a hell-raiser that historians rave about. She was a poet, journalist and romance writer born in the mid-1800s. And most importantly -- she was a "free-thinker." She wrote a lot of poetry and the kind of sweet romances that were very popular in the late 1880's and onward, but they were considered risque by some (mostly the patriarchy resistant to change) for the time. So much so that her publisher in Chicago refused to print one of her novels as being too racy and caused an uproar.

But it seems that both men and women waited with baited breath for each book. Visions of women's ankles danced in cowboy's heads on the prairie and stultified Victorian ladies sneaked and read her books and then required cooling down afterward. She was eventually picked up by a NY publisher and the book sold like hotcakes. As many more thereafter. So to that extent, she struck a blow for freedom of expression and served as a model of what women could accomplish, which I'm sure planted seeds in the minds of those who came after her.

Progress rarely happens in leaps and bounds. But in the small steps. And those small steps are sometimes taken by the most unlikeliest of heros....

9. Not a fan...
Maybe she's waking up, but I have little respect for Landrieu. Based on her voting record, she could easily be a Republican.

15. This is some of her record
Landrieu supports eliminating the estate tax permanently, and voted for the tax cut passed in 2001. On November 17, 2005, she was one of only four Democrats to vote against repealing the portions of the tax cuts passed in 2001 and 2003 that more liberal Democrats have charged unfairly benefit the wealthy. She voted for the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 and the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. In 2004, Landrieu was one of only six Democrats to vote against renewing the ban on semi-automatic firearms. She has also been one of the few Democrats to support drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. How did she vote on IWR

I know we are not to bash Democrats here, but we do need to keep a perspective.

16. I don't think a handful of votes makes one akin to a Republican.
Here are her "interest group" ratings for example:
http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=661

She is a moderate on many issues but I'd be tickled if Republicans actually looked like Mary Landrieu when it comes to votes. And, if we look specifically at guns and taxes, she's doing pretty well overall given her low ratings by conservative groups? ;)

18. If you look at her votes in the environmental area, that link you posted...
indicates that she usually votes in favor of environmental issues less than half the time. She is more in line with Republicans in that area.

17. This is true. She is a Louisiana Democrat...like John Breaux, who...
was a sponsor of the Medicare-giveaway to ins. cos. and big pharma Reform Act.

I was ESPECIALLY disappointed when Landrieu voted to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I expected it, since she is from an oil state like Texas, and is a semi-Repub-Dem. But still, it was very disappointing. I expect big oil contributes to her campaigns.

21. i dont think thats a bash, just the facts ma'am.
As a Louisianan, Ive never been extremely thrilled with her, and I certainly think she could do way more for Katrina aid, but she is one of the few ok people weve got. And to think I moved to AZ where my politicians are 50 times worse than any Deep South politico..

10. Mary says she isn't looking for a pull out ,just a change in direction?
So as the enemy adapts, we'll adapt? What kind of change?,, stay to protect the Oil interest?
Lets just get the fuck out Mary.

11. I think her statements were clear.
She said we went into the wrong country after the wrong man. She wanted a vote on the 120 day deadline set by Democrats.
