MSNBC Countdown w/ KEITH OLBERMANN - 19 January 2009: Olbermann apologizes (NOT) to Scott Brown for his 18 January Quick Comment calling Brown an "irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women and politicians with whom he disagrees."

10. It's called satire
Keith didn't invent it, and apparently it's something that sails right over your head.

8. Rachel is a pale imitation of Keith
Keith is genuinely funny; Rachel is cutesy, trying and failing to be funny, acting like a three-year-old trying to get Daddy's attention. Keith can get a point across succinctly; Rachel has to blather endlessly, before she can even make a point. Keith has the guts to call people liars; Rachel is so busy sucking up to Repukes to get them on her show, she has time for little else.

BTW, if it weren't for Keith, Rachel would still be the annoying whiner on AAR whom hardly anybody was listening to. He took it on the chin from Fox News, stalkers, people making death threats against him, and was even held in a NYC hospital against his will, because some RW nutjob who literally lived in his parents' basement mailed (what turned out to be) fake anthrax to him.

Rachel? She coasted to fame on his coattails, after he had done all the hard-hitting investigative reporting about Bush/Cheney, which people like you have conveniently forgotten.

Oh, yeah--and thanks to Countdown, yet ANOTHER revelation about the three "suicides" at Gitmo has recently come to light.

If you prefer wimpy anchors, that's your choice. But even hinting that Rachel has more substance than Keith, or that she's less clownish, is ill-informed, at best.

12. Good points - I did see his reporting on the 3 deaths at gitmo and
thought it was excellent. I think when he does "hard news" he is so much better than when he is trying to play got ya. Too bad he spends 90% of his show playing got ya. He, in my opinion is liberal "porn" - really fun to watch and momentarily satisfying.
But I usually like to be informed rather than entertained

I also agree that Rachel would not have her show at all if it were not for Keith.

19. This is not about Keith vs Rachel!
Must DUers appreciate both Rachel and Keith. The guy that said Keith is a clown is a stealth Republican operative on DU strictly to sow discontent.

17. disagree
they both have their roles to play. keith provides the fire and laughter that is necessary to put energy in the bellies of progressives, and rachel provides a bit more sustenance for the mind.

the real clowns are beck, o'reilly and limbaugh (and the hundreds of other blowhard right wing opinionators)

You are a Republican or Teabagger. We don't need Republican talking points on DU.

4. We roll on, one radio broadcaster said it best they may slow down progress but they will not stop it
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 09:45 PM by ProgressOnTheMove
Forward march, the only thing we need ot overcome i the end is truth. We have to go easy on the President now because he simply can't do anything now unless it's budgetary reconciliation. Progress will be slow or non existent, but on our part we can just keep disseminating the truth and one day single payer, greater peace will be the accepted norm. It doesn't end here it just mean the struggle will take more effort. To give in would be a really easy option but not one we can ever afford to do. The main thing we can do now is bring the center closer to us and the truth can do that. Lots of things are for now off the table, all we got to do is get a new table. The flat earthers can never stop the world being round, the climate deniers will not stop natural disaster being the biggest alarm signal, the bankers will not stop the public rage, the GOP will not stop US.

6. And the 101st key board brigade is out in full force saying this is the end of Obama and
the democratic party. For crying out loud get a grip folks this was a special election held after a full year of tea bagging nit wits protesting they are getting taxed less then they were the last 8 years. I'm so fed up with how after 30 years of republicon non sense, people gave Obama less then 3 days to clear up the mess the republicons made before they started busting his balls.

9. It's been far more than 3 days
It's been a year. 25% of his term. 50% of his term, if you count the usual mid-term elections resulting in the other party traditionally gaining a lot of seats in Congress.

I'm hoping this election will make Obama wake up and realize that it's time to start fighting for real. He needs to channel a little of the spirit of LBJ, and energize people again. :patriot:

15. If not for the filibuster, Brown's election would not have this impact & Obama could get his adminis
administration going. 177 holds...unheard of...and without any serious reasons..."Canadians might start making candy cigarettes"- DeMint on agriculture appointee hold. You can't work with repubs...at all. The greed pours over Mass. like maple syrup.........look at how they drool.

21. "Bring in The Clowns!"
If it takes a clown to get people to use their brains and start thinking and look beyond the curtain then we need more clowns and a lot less ego bound, overpaid blowhards.
