Summary: Cenk interviews conservative Hollywood screenwriter , the man behind Clint Eastwood's True Crime and Don't Say A Word starring Michael Douglas, on his issues with Jame Cameron's box office hit Avatar. His conservative objections relate to his ideas on "left wing Hollywood" dissing the military that projects them, and how the culture in Hollywood stifles any non-liberal ideas. Later in the interview he uses the phrase "Islamists" which Cenk doesn't appreciate too much...

PS---Check out (and subscribe to) our new channel, . As the name suggests, it's all great interviews with the likes of Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Arianna Huffington, William K Black, Media Matters reps and much more.

1. I heard this guy last night Tom
I thought he was a total jackass. He wouldn't even admit that talk radio was tilted to the right, just a total jackass.

Why did he take away a half hour of Anna's time? Did I mention that I thought he was a total jackass?

True. Even though "Avatar" is lov-er-ly to look at it is totally forgettable. It's full of unfocused ideas about noble savages and Gaea and Descartian "Ghost in the machine" dualism and other debunked (20th Century) ideas. There's obvious reference to Iraq and how unjust that all is, but the film won't make any difference to anyone in a short time. It's sooooo 20th century!

But the guy is still a dick.

16. I know what you mean but it's a balancing act.
Believe me, part of me wanted Cenk to blow up. But another part of me appreciates the fact that he kept his cool. Blowing up is more satisfying in the short term, but generally less productive. Besides, Cenk got some fun jabs in.

3. Let me guess
Planetary destruction and imperialism on indigenous people shouldn't be viewed as such bad things.

But did he say it out loud?

They pretty much avoid any broad strokes and political stances in favor of focusing on individual soldiers' experiences and their problems adjusting once they return.

7. A realistic view of the soldier is painted.
Conservatives want to mask the horror of war. They want to believe that the soldier does not have emotion, the soldier cannot
have a life altering reaction war.
The conservative does not want to see the cost of war, including the toll that is taken on the life of a soldier who has to live with
what they have experienced/done.

8. Ok, I only made it five minutes listening to this asshat.
I haven't seen the movie, but my son has and he compared it to a new version of Fern Gully. Don't really care one way or the other about this movie.
This guy, though, is just way to angry or upset about a fucking movie.

the world and of history. I've noticed that the people who object to this movie the most, are the most like the villains in it. Their rationalizations only work if they don't have to look at an issue objectively or through the victims eyes.

To Andrew Klaven,

Maybe it’s that your opinions are reprehensible and it comes through in your writing. A Christian fighting Islamofascists? Sounds simplistic and medieval, no wonder it was panned. There have been many people throughout history, much smarter than you, that didn't know how to think correctly or objectively. As a self proclaimed loudmouth, maybe you should be quiet for a while and listen. Maybe you'll learn something.

13. So do liberals that support veteran's benefits that conservatives DON'T work against the military?
That's one question I wish Cenk would have asked... Because it is the Rethugs that keep wanting to screw veterans after they've been "used up" overseas...

Got it!

That's the guy who played Jack the Ripper on Sanctuary, right?

Looks just like him...if the book fails, maybe a career as an actor's double?

17. What a xenophobic, bigoted, warmongering crybaby.
I can't possibly imagine why people would criticize his book for young adults. I'm SURE it contains nothing promoting his hateful ideology. :sarcasm:

He sure is Mr. Tough Guy when it comes to sending other people's kids to die, but is a big crybaby when it comes to being slighted by "Hollywood liberals". I have a feeling that people wouldn't like or want to work with this guy no matter what his political leanings were. He's an ass.
