1. Thom is a great man but and in some respects Dems deserved to lose the Senate seat..
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 08:53 PM by ProgressOnTheMove
but I don't totally disagree with the caller. Corporate money is all over the place Caokley's record as AG reads very positive to me. We have to hold their feet to the fire I don't dispute that but maybe not to the level we catch fire too. All the same this may turn out to a positive, Hartmann is a smart man I know he wants what's best it's just maybe a little too pessimistic for my tastes. Now the situation we are in now well I guess pessimism isn't too out of place.

3. Exactly it's all a matter of a persons perspective, Hart mann's heart is in the right place...

but we have to allow Obama a little empathy for a very difficult political environment too. If we lived in a world where Hartmann was the biggest rated radio host of the both left and right sure Obama would have very little excuse to not get pulled to the wrong way, but not where we are. Call the President out if he is doing wrong but at least balance it out with intense pressure he might face. The average left wing host gets hostile calls and emails from the right imagine the level that goes to with a diverse race President.

5. I am beginning to get tired of Hartmann's holier than thou attitiude.
Why does he not run for office himself, and show that he can do better.

11. ProgressOnTheMove, this country is in CRISIS. We need change. Action. Now!
Consider giving our future's treasure to the top 2%, multinational corporations bleeding us dry, adherence to trade policies this is literally gutting America and America's infrastructure, and more.. we need emergency action! Now! Thom is right on the mark.

The Shock Doctrine doesn't always have to work in favor of the Milton Friedman camp. This nation is crumbling before our eyes, and it needs an emergency upgrade.

25. Then why is Obama trying to compromise with them?
As you say and I agree, the Republicans are the Party of Obstruction and NO.

Recovery Act? That the one where all the money hasn't even been disbursed yet, intended over 2 years, or was considered significantly insufficient by economists? I haven't paid that close attention, but will keep my ear open for more info.

are trying to obstruct the most. I suppose Bush did give the impression that the concentration of power is solely with the President but it's more nuanced than that.

17. I like Rachel but prefer Thom's format and his commentary.
I like the austerity, the focus on substance after all the annoying bells and whistles that finally drove me away from MSNBC entirely. I can't listen to one more minute of that gimmicky format. Listening to or watching Thom and Laura Flanders and Amy on Free Speech TV is such a relief.

10. what Obama's done for me
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 09:38 PM by 90-percent
Got laid off March 2009. getting unemployment benefits to this day, although I don't know how much longer. Got 65% of my $950 a month COBRA payments paid for by the government.

This has been a major benefit for me and my household. And I really appreciate it.

If I had the choice, I like to think I'd trade those personal benefits for MEDICARE FOR ALL. Americans deserve better than our medieval health care system!

19. What do you think the Republicans would do for you? Not a darn thing.
I have friend who lost his job when all this started. He said that thanks to some of the policies already put in place by Obama, he was able to keep his house and healthcare. Fortunately, he found another job, although not making as much. When the Democrats tried to extend unemployment benefits, the Republicans blocked it.

20. Republicans?
I'd vote for a reincarnated Hitler before I'd vote Republican.

I am an example of someone who has been helped tremendously and by Obama. Just trying to show that some of his policies have helped us little guys directly.

12. Thank you Thom! By far the best talk show host in the nation.
Callers like that are a big part of the problem. (It's making me see how many people there are on the left that are blinded by ideology.) Too bad.

Please keep up the great work Thom!

21. K&R . I agree very strongly with Thom !
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 11:01 AM by Overseas
Millions of Republican and Independent voters crossed over to vote for President Obama because he ran a 21st century populist campaign.

Millions knew how badly the Republican Bush Gang had destroyed our country and how unbalanced our economy had become with so many years of Republican tax cuts for the super-rich and reckless privatization and voted for the party of FDR.

Millions hoped the Democrats would re-balance our cruel economy from Trickle Down to include more basic compassion like Medicare Part E and jobs programs-- green and infrastructure repairs.

The least Democrats could have done was to push boldly for a public bailout to match the private bailouts to big finance-- Medicare for all, to free citizens already facing eviction from their homes due to reckless deregulated financing and credit default swapping, from medical terror-- from being homeless and indebtedness due to medical emergencies.
