(01.22.10) Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer drew a comparison to feeding stray animals during a speech about people on government assistance, babies having babies, and parents whose children are on free and reduced-price lunch.

6. As the musical "Sweeney Todd" put it...
"The history of the world, my sweet...is who gets eaten, and who gets to eat".

I picture Mr. Bauer slow-cooked, in a burgundy reduction with shallots...served at the homeless shelter, as soon as possible.

There might be a couple of fat ass pork butts that could be fed to the poor or the animals of the forest but only after drastic tenderizing by an industrial pulverizer in the form of a few but kicking shoes.

We recently had to replace our septic system, and I asked the septic guy, because I'd long wondered. what happens to the solids that periodically get pumped out of the tank. He replied that it gets treated, dried and then spread as fertilizer. I see that as a better use for this piece of human waste.

I am getting tired of all the condescension from these professional politicians who have lived their entire professional lives sucking off the public tit, and all these right wing "self made" honchos whose business models depend entirely on government contracts and money... since they provide absolutely nothing in terms of value added (military contractors are a prime example) which a free market would ever demand.

When I last worked at Lockheed, it was fascinating to see the libertarian/right wing types which made a significant amount of the workforce (and most of their management) lecturing me about how bad welfare and public education were. Not stopping to think for a second, that their entire business model is sustained by public money. Since the overpriced useless product they sell has absolutely no significant value proposition whatsoever...

They had one of their "people's voices" features, where they were supposedly interviewing people(they always use the same six photographs, but give them different names each time)about the S.C. Confederate flag controversy.

One "interviewee" said..."As a resident of South Carolina, I feel deeply ashamed...now what's this about a flag?"

91. After I left Texas in the late 80s
it wasn't too bad. Now, they are even proud of the fact that they can screw the system trying to hand out Food Stamps. I viewed a forum in the Beaumont Enterprise where participates were joyous over the fact that the Food Stamp program is designed to screw the poor. By poor in this forum, it's not hard to figure out who they are talking about.
Now, when I visit down there, it's hard to distinguish between Masons and the KKK. Both are very racist. I have relative who are either one or the other. They hate Blacks, especially Black politicians. When bu$h f*cked the poor people of New Orleans, I don't know which of the groups were spewing more hate against those poor folks. They have nothing good to say about Blanco or the mayor of NO, Naggin (sp) and that the people of New Orleans deserved what they got.

Now, that's f*cking sad.

That's not the country I spent defending for 7 1/2 years.
I've lived in the Midwest for the last 20 years. The conservanazis up here are just as racist as the Kluckers in Texas/Louisiana.

The similarity with Nazi eugenics is clear:

"Hitler believed the nation had become weak, corrupted by the infusion of degenerate elements into its bloodstream. These had to be removed quickly. He also believed that the strong and the racially pure had to be encouraged to have more children, and the weak and the racially impure had to be neutralized by one means or another."

from Wikipedia's article on Nazi Eugenics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_eugenics

Eugenics propaganda, Nazi style. Partial translation of text:
“Qualitative decline in the population . . . It will come to this if individuals with lesser value have four children and those of higher value have two.”
(Graphic and translation from The Lancet, 20044.)

As a teacher myself I wish we could have more parental participation but the sad fact is that there are many people out there who are barely making it. Some people are working two jobs and can't afford to take time off either job because then they wouldn't be able to pay the electric bill that month or maybe not be able to make the rent payment. Some parents have no transportation and live in areas that do not offer public transportation.

I've also been in schools that forbid parents to bring their children to these meetings. Too much commotion. Well what if you can't afford a babysitter? What if you don't have anyone you can trust to watch your children?

I wish I knew the answer to parental involvement. Our school offers parents the opportunity to view their child's grades on line. They can email the teachers with questions or concerns. That helps but some parents do not have Internet access. What then?

The fact that schools with a higher level of free lunch recipients does not mean that free lunch is the cause of the problem. So why would you punish the kids? I have students that I feed breakfast to EVERY DAY. The cereal I bring and the FRE lunch they get are the only meals that some of them get, especially at the end of the month.

While I agree that ten years old is not the optimum age for childbirth, I do wonder if this child was the victim of rape. Was this child being molested at the hands of a trusted family member or friend? He's right inasmuch as saying that a ten year old is not equipped to be a parent. Then why are we as a nation not willing to reach out and help this child. If she had wanted an abortion could she have gotten one under the "NEW Healthcare bill"? The answer is sadly no.

I doubt a ten year old said, "Hey I'll get pregnant so I dont' have to work." She's ten she probably wasn't out looking for a job.

We need to give young people more opportunities for success. We need to work as a nation to help improve our schools for ALL children. Every child is precious. EVERY child deserves a fair chance. NO child should go to bed hungry in our country and NO CHILD should be without health insurance.

Yeah, she was raped by an alien. He got the story from the grocery checkout counter. Right next to a headline about Bat Boy.

Funny... if a corporation is also a person, does this "giving them money is rewarding bad behavior" still apply? I mean, corporate welfare is 10 times greater than personal welfare. Exxon made more money than anyone in history and paid no taxes that year...none. Is that what he's talking about?

He's a closeted gay man who hates himself and anyone who might be happy.

BTW....not feeding the stray animals did not stop them from breeding. Dying might have. But they mate when hungry too. His grandma was also an idiot. ("Mee-maw" probably raised him, not his parents. It's a SC tradition.)

73. When I did my student teaching
in West Virginia we had a girl in the school who was eleven and pregnant. It was a very tragic story. Mom and she were living in boyfriend's trailer. Mom got pregnant by boyfriend and boyfriend was going to kick them out. The boy did offer an alternative to being kicked out, allow him to have sex with her eleven year old.

The eleven year old got pregnant and that's when the school stepped in. The girl had gone to a trusted teacher and that teacher reported what was said to the proper channels. Social Services investigated but Mom and boyfriend insisted that the girl was just lying because the girl got pregnant by some unnamed boyfriend. The girl then changed her story so Social Services backed off. Now this was about 18 years ago or maybe a little more than that but back then Social Services was willing to drop the case.

It was so incredibly sad to see this little pregnant girl in the halls. She kept to herself, wouldn't look anyone in the eye, and she was locked in a prison that the adults who were supposed to care for her made.

So when I heard a ten year old I don't know that the story wasn't off by a year or maybe he back counted a year to make the story even more dramatic. I have been teaching for a long time and I will tell you that we've had children as young as twelve who were pregnant. While rare it has happened and many times it was an adult who was molesting them.

I think saying she was raped by an alien is a bit harsh. Obviously his remarks were uncalled for and beyond stupid but I still say that I have never met an eleven year old who was ready to become a mother.

Punishing kids because they are born into poverty does nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, to change the situation in which they find themselves. I repeat we have students who might only eat one meal a day and that's the meal they get at school. Maybe they should take food away from him each time stupid words come out of his mouth.

20. He's a modern Day Terry Dolan
a much reviled early leader of the "new right" faction in Republican politics during the Reagan years

In addition to pushing the agenda of the "new right" a forerunner of today's far right republican politics, he in particular spoke out vociferously against homosexual rights.

Eventually it became known he was a closet case, and died of AIDS a few years later.

The tie to Dolan is philosophical, and if the rumors that were printed during the efforts to impeach Stanford, he's also a closet case.

In fact some McClatchey stories stated that SC political leadership decided to NOT follow through with Stanford's impeachment and removal from office, because then they'd have an even more loathsome (in their eyes) homosexual as governor. Standford for all his "sins" at least committed sins that they saw as natural ones LOL

Now he denies being a homosexual, but those denials haven't stopped the rumors, because he simultaneously shows no evidence of serious involvement with women.

For those that know some about sexuality in the South, it is extremely unusual to have a nice looking man like this guy (give him his due) NOT demonstrate any signs of being a horn dog around women. ;)in the southern sense, not the general sense that men generally can be horn dogs.

If you want to stop feeding the poor, why don't you stop feeding the rich. Lets just stop all of those tax breaks that rich people get. Lets make them stop writing off all those luxury lunches and hotel rooms that are for business purposes only. Make them pay for their own meals. Don't give them loopholes to write off every car they own and certainly do not give them tax breaks on their real estate. No more government subsidies for Lt Governors. Make him drive his own car, pay for his own lunch, and pay for his own clothes. He doesn't need to do all that traveling anymore, he can do the 'go to meeting'. This guy is a piece of shit.

Bigotry like "don't feed the poor" = easy, smart solutions = harder but more thoughtful.

69. The depth of this s.o.b.'s ignorance is just awe-inspiring. I've worked with these kids
and he doesn't have a clue as to what their lives are like. And he doesn't WANT to have a clue. In fact he clearly doesn't care enough about them to regard them as human beings, worthy of respect and having inherent value and potential that, if we worked to help them recognize it, would lift us ALL up. There's a type of person, however, who can only lift himself up by standing on the neck of someone he deems inferior, and he's the poster boy (and I do mean BOY, not man) for this kind of worthless, small and narrow minded provincialism.

If a kid's on free lunch it means only one thing relaibly-that there's not enough of something at home, whether it be money, time or nurturing. That can mean anything from troubled parents to parents who work their asses off and can't come to parent teacher conferences because they're, well, working their asses off. But is he interested in being helpful enough to these parents or to the children to give them some connection to the community that can supercede whatever is happening at home, the thing that, in fact he was hired to do? No. If you pay attention to the beginning, he complains about them even being allowed to vote. He wants to dehumanize them in every way possible so they can be either blamed or ignored for their own difficulties. Ten year old children! A ten year old girl, whether she is having consensual sex or has been forced, does not understand the consequences of her actions in any way. I could write a book on the reasons why, from simple child development to psychosocial stressors that create hopelessness and disconnection. But he wouldn't care.

Those who have called him Nazi are right on. Before you consider aybody to be sub-human, you better take a look in the mirror, buddy.

South Carolina Lt. Gov. Apologizes for Comparing the Poor to ‘Stray Animals’

Posted on Jan 25, 2010

South Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has apologized for comparing poor people to “stray animals” that are encouraged by gifts of food to breed uncontrollably. Bauer, who is running in the state’s gubernatorial election, told CNN while apologizing that he is “not against animals.”

What he is is maybe a little dense. After telling the news network that “I never intended to tie people to animals,” Bauer repeated the error by offering this pearl of wisdom: “If you have a cat, if you take it in your house and feed it and love it, what happens when you go out of town?” Consider them tied, gov.

President Harry S. Truman began the national school lunch program in 1946 as a measure of national security.

He did so after reading a study that revealed many young men had been rejected from the World War II draft due to medical conditions caused by childhood malnutrition. Since that time more than 180 million lunches have been served to American children who attend either a public school or a non-profit private school.

In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson extended the program by offering breakfast to school children. It began as a two years pilot program for children in rural areas and those living in poorer neighborhoods. It was believed that these children would have to skip breakfast in order to catch the bus for the long ride to school. There were also concerns that the poorer families could not always afford to feed their children breakfast. Johnson believed, like many of us today, that children would do better in school if they had a good breakfast to start their day. The pilot was such a success that it was decided the program should continue. By 1975, breakfast was being offered to all children in public or non-profit private school. This change was made because educators felt that more children were skipping breakfast due to both parent being in the workforce. +

In 1906 two books were published: Poverty and The Bitter Cry of the Children. These two books were the first to examine the link between poor nutrition and the resulting negative impact on learning and productivity. By 1913, School Lunches were operating in 30 cities and 14 states. However by 1918 and the beginning of WWI, the realization of how desperate the youth of America was painfully obvious. Enormous numbers of young men could not enter the military due to poor physical condition related to malnutrition. By 1919 2930 schools were now receiving hot lunches.
http://ilunchbox.com/articles/history-of-t...

The first school lunch program in the United States started in New York, in 1853 serving meals to students attending “The Children’s Aid Society of New York” a vocational school (http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdenutritran/do... ). In 1904, Robert Hunter wrote a book “Poverty.” This book had a strong influence on the citizens of the United States who felt there was a great need to feed hungry, needy children. Hunter was greatly concerned about academic performance of children in schools. Teachers became alarmed at the number of students arriving at school without a nutritious meal because many students came from poor families who could not afford breakfast meals.

At the time of World War II, enlisted soldiers were showing signs of under weight and malnutrition. During these findings, the doctors who were examining these potential soldiers denied enlistment because of malnutrition. The Truman Administration attempted to address this problem of malnourished recruits along with other concerns about federally funded school lunch programs along with the lack of commodities providing assistance after their agreement during World War II. Congress and President Truman noticed parallels between malnutrition with young men and school lunch programs.
http://www.healthmad.com/Nutrition/History...

In 1941 America was barely more than twenty years from the First World War. People were toughened by the struggle for survival in the 1930's Depression. In 1940, 40% of draftees were rejected, most of them because of malnutrition, bad teeth and eyesight--all results of the Depression. Many new soldiers came from farms in rural America where a familiarity with guns was necessitated by subsistence hunting.
http://www.museumofworldwarii.com/Homefron...

The National School Lunch Program

During World War II, many U.S. draftees were found to be malnourished to such an extent that they were turned down for military service. The realization of this low nutritional state of the general population led to the passage of the National School Lunch Act (NSLA) in 1946, which established the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) in elementary and secondary schools. This landmark legislation, although amended many times, continues in force today, with its original objectives still in place. These objectives are "to safeguard the health and well-being of the Nation's children, and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and other food."

In 2008, Bauer supported legislation for a new state license plate containing the words "I Believe" and a "cross superimposed on a stained glass window.”<7><8> The legislation was approved by the South Carolina General Assembly, however a temporary order by a judge in U.S. District Court blocked production of the plates.<9> On November 10, 2009, in a subsequent opinion and order on motions for summary judgment, Judge Cameron McGowan Currie declared the "I Believe" Act "in violation of the Constitution of the United States of America" and permanently enjoined the state from issuing the "I Believe" state license plates.<10> The judge also noted:<10>
