4. Could you imagine it..
Edited on Tue Jan-26-10 08:51 PM by AsahinaKimi
if the hero of the movie tried to Convert the Na'vi to Christianity?

That would have made the Conservatives very happy.. until the Na'vi kicked the Human's butts..

I don't think there were ANY religious overtones in this movie, in fact it was all very spiritual. The problem with Right wing Conservatives is, they want their religious views injected into every form of entertainment.

Anti Religious? No not in the least.. but the movie was very anti greedy Corporation. Screw the Natives, whats theirs now belongs to us.

That has been a worldly theme for a long, long time.

5. I'm envisioning an edit of all these conservatives griping about Avatar
And showing clips of Disney's Pocahontas... cause honestly, it was pointed out to me recently that it's almost the exact same plot...

Much as The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy was an allusion to Hitler's rise to power... which naturally, the Right assumed was about them; this film parallels the European colonization of the Americas. It's nothing more than a vision of the future in which history repeats itself. It's not James Cameron's fault that they see so much of themselves in it.

6. Respect for the military culture?
There should be no military culture.
We started out with a military made up of citizen soldiers and then built this military that has it's own culture and is almost a separate existence from it's own people....WTF is wrong with us that we think this as a good thing.

13. It's a story -- literature.
These people need to read the original Grimm's Fairy Tales. They read the super-sweet Disney versions. Avatar is a fairy tale. It is pro-environment, but it is not ideological. It is the story of a mythical hero saving a world. That story is told over and over in literature.

The problem with conservatives is not that they are illiterate. They read. The problem is that they are deeply anti-literate, anti-literature.

By the way, the profits will go to Fox News Corp. and, among others to the two major shareholders in Fox News Corp., Rupert Murdoch and Saudi Prince Alwaleed. I just can't repeat this often enough. Remember, every time you pay your money to watch the special effects in this film, you are helping fund Fox News.

14. It highlights the soulless poverty of some religious leaders . . .
That something everybody agrees is "spiritual" is feared by them as "antireligious." I don't happen to be a religious person, but I always thought that there was substantial overlap between spirituality and religion -- that they were, in fact, more or less synonymous for most believers.

What it really shows is that conservative pusballs are eternally hungry for something to be offended by, and since true injustice doesn't seem to move them, they have to get their corsets in a snarl over fake injustice -- and come down on the wrong side of the fight.

What dickheads.
