5. Just thought of one of my favorite remarks about Bush: |
|
GEORGE BUSH ~~ THE PRESIDENT QUAYLE WE NEVER HAD.
 After seeing Dan Quayle in action again, I must say that certainly seems to fit!

8. Just the way Quayle spoke... |
|
... so haltingly, like he was reading off a teleprompter the entire time.
Bentsen totally schooled him.

7. I love the way Sen. Bentsen raised his eyebrows and |
|
did that little "no" headshake after Quayle mentioned Jack Kennedy. Potatoe-head set himself up to be pwned.
And ick, he reminds me a little bit of Kirk Cameron.

9. Bentsen should have been the nominee in '88 |
|
Well, I suppose Mario Cuomo would have been a good candidate that year, too. But assuming that Cuomo didn't run, Bentsen should have run. Yes, he was a relatively conservative Democrat, but he was a statesman, he had stature, and he had gravitas. He schooled Quayle and he would have schooled Poppy Bush.
Of course, maybe others will disagree - I was only a little kid at the time, so I'm speaking sort of out of my ass, here.
But several of the comments on the youtube thread said the same thing - when they watched that debate, they were wishing that Bentsen had been the nominee.
