Haggard shows his truly "Christian" demeanor when confronted with views different than his own. Maybe his rude behavior can be attribute to his meth use. Who knows?

1. I'll probably be flamed for this, but I've seen the whole film, "Root of All Evil,"
and given Dawkins' superior demeanor throughout the film, it's no wonder Christians extremists feel threatened by atheists and agnostics. I have a great deal of respect for Dawkins but his manner struck me as extremely condescending when he was interviewing many of those people. Poking a mad dog through the fence is not known to make the dog any less mad or more enlightened.

3. Not familiar with Dawkins, but sometimes atheists can be just as
annoying and unpleasant as a tv evangelist. O'Hare was like that, she was a very hard person to respect at all, at least as she came across in public. really hateful. and christopher hitchens... man, he told Edward Said, while he was very close to death, that he was going to attack him publicly (they previously had been close friends).

7. Yeah, that kind of frustrates me.
I think in a lot of ways faith needs the message of the guys, because its time to throw the crap and insanity out the window and look at what's really worth keeping in religion. I think the challenges they present are valid. But when they come on all aggressive and confrontational, it makes it a tribal conflict between beleivers and atheists rather than a chance to really learn and grow through it.

8. I'd rather have Dawkins' talk to me as a child, then Chimpys advisor..

9. Really? Rude is rude, in my opinion.
Like I said in my reply above, poking a mad dog through the fence rarely makes the dog less mad or more enlightened.

10. Look nobody has gotten close enough to these "mad dogs " ..
to poke a stick at yet. They have to be exposed, ridiculed and debated.

11. I agree with exposed and debated.
But we can save ourselves the trouble of ridiculing them. Extremists do that to themselves with their preposterous beliefs. I would be more in favor of approaching the situation like this, "They believe insert preposterous beliefs here, and they're seeking to impose these preposterous beliefs on the electorate by influencing public policy from the pulpit."

In my view, by the way, their attempts to influence public policy are absolutely no different than Tom Cruise's nutty assertion that psychiatry and psychiatric drugs should be outlawed.

13. In fact, the ridicule followed the exposure.
He was exposed by Mike Jones, and ridiculed after the allegations came to light.

2. Is it necessary to parody Haggard as that guy is doing?
I thought Haggard is a parody of himself.

4. Right, I don't think so. Bit of a pointless exercise, though well done.

6. Hehe. Yeah, I gotta say, its hard to beat that.
Haggard's subtle arrogance and snideness in the original speaks louder in some ways than the parody. Sometimes less IS more. ;)

15. Personally I prefer the "Dead Parrot" parody
For the Monty Python fans out there:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEcEwPszfrE

Seriously though, I just finished Al Gore's "The Assault of Reason" and am now reading Dawkin's "The God Delusion." Critics have called both men arrogant and condescending - I don't see it, though. I think they're both intelligent people putting their ideas out there.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the clip!

PS - As you can see,I just joined DU. I know it's been a rough couple of days for some people because of the impeachment issue, but I think it's great that people are thinking and talking about all this (whether or not everyone agrees). I'm really happy to have found this site (thanks to my cousin!).

Peace!

16. Welcome to DU!

And that was hilarious. Thanks!

Added on edit:

A walk down the path of history is crunchy with the crispy corpses of those who pooh-poohed or ignored the clown car of ridicule when it pulled-up to the curb. Who would have thought such a tiny car could contain so many infectious and revolutionary guffaws? Satires, parodies, blue humor, pants to the ground ass-wavings, tea-dumping, Modest Proposal submiting, 7 dirty word spewing, flag burning, frankly impolite, just plain rude and improper expressions of ridicule have either ignited reform, fanned the flames or kicked the corpse to make sure it was dead. - Stephen Jones taken from the net
