5. Now I'm even more proud of voting for him
I've met him twice and shook his hand, he is the real deal. He takes his job seriously, unlike his colleagues across the aisle. Unlike conservatives who are very comfortable with hypocrisy to fit everything into to their black/white mindset, he can see in shades of gray and understand that a partial solution is better than no solution.

Where is the Public Option? Why is Obama so weak on the needs of the Average American?

God knows if there had been 60 progressive Senators in the Senate Obama would have had to fight for the PO or take responsibility for killing it himself.

Supporting Lincoln against an honest to God real Democrat? Kind of tells the story, does it not?

17. Republicans Afflicted With Selective Amnesia
Not only have they forgotten what Al pointed out, they conveniently forgot how often they had used reconciliation - like with Dubya's giant gift to the wealthy, a huge tax cut, the further transference of wealth from the bottom, who needs it, to the top, who does not - all started by the beloved (by some) Gipper.

Most of them I know do it because they always have. They were told to when they were 18 or so... and tradition is easier than thinking. Also, usually there's a motivation around something to do with a perception that some minority is getting something they don't deserve.

Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 08:12 PM by liberation
Everyone at the trailer park is sure they are going to win the lottery any day now, so they don't want to rock it for that time when they will be buying all that property!

Like Carlin said: it is called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. The psychology of mass control behind the whole idea is fascinating though, if one really thinks about it.

34. RepubliCONS...
You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate
energy policy.

You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got ousted.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to
us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said
illegal war.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq .

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.

You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.

You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America
deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies,
corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all
okay with you, but helping other Americans... oh hell no.

48. Can someone please explain to me...
...how you can have a surplus and yet the debt continues to go up? This is one issue I think the Democrats need to clarify as it's one of their main talking points. Aside from a couple of years in the '50's, the Treasury Department says the debt has gone up every year since World War 2. It was close from 1999 to 2000 but still went up.

51. I'm not the one to explain this because I have trouble understanding it clearly myself,
but basically, it comes down to confusing "budget deficit/surplus" and "national debt". They are two different things.

Try this link for an explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

There is a good graph down the page that compares the two, as well.

52. So from the chart it looks like it's a false surplus...
...because they balanced the budget by "borrowing" from the social security fund. The money still has to be paid back so there's no real surplus. I'm sure when the debts come due the treasury will just print the money to cover the bill, essentially making the dollar worthless.

54. At the moment, I have a surplus in my household budget. My debt, however, went up...
...because I bought something on credit.

Fortunately, if I continue to run surpluses on my household budget, I can continue to make payments on my mortgage and any other household debt I incur.

Why is this hard to understand?

Budget: Money in, money out

Debt: Credit in, credit out

helpfully,
Bright
