Ben Stein tries to claim Toyota's problems are nothing but a conspiracy theory.

1. Ed took on Ben stein on Larry King
And Ben Stein was completely taken aback by Ed's style, and the fact that Ed had a flurry of facts on his side.

It was a wonderful Ed moment and when I realized he was going to have his own show eventually.

2. Ben Stein has a typical "I know nothing but I will talk anyway" attitude
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 10:18 AM by AzNick
We had this discussion with an actual auto technician here not too long ago about how the computer on the Toyotas, instead of shutting down or at least stalling the engine, went in panic over-rev when the sensors did not communicate speed accurately, due to lack of communication.

This is the sad fact in today's America: a foreign corporation may be responsible for the death of Americans and the right-wing commentators will take the side of the foreign corporation.

12. Bingo!
This is a good thing to hammer on when the right wing wraps itself in the flag. They will take the side of foreign (and trans-national) corporations over Americans any day of the week.

4. According to a Comcast commercial, Ben Stein is "the smartest"...
(He appears in a Comcast ad where he's referred to as "the smartest" and Shaquille O'Neal is "the best".)

The "smartest"? I don't think so. In addition to denying global warming, he wrote and narrated http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1091617/">Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, a really bad movie denying evolution. The man's a real nutcase.

8. "Expelled" was a pitiful joke!
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 12:41 PM by AlbertCat
When someone thinks Evolution and Climate Change are both huge million scientists strong hoaxes perpetrated on the (American....no other country thinks they're bunk) public for....what reason exactly?... When you got a double denial and TWO, count 'em TWO! international scientific nefarious schemes (SPECTRE and KAOS?), that is a gigantic red flag. The person is either stupid, or willfully stupid.

I love those "you think you know everything" pro-religious/ anti-science types who proceed to tell you how everything is. They know everything!.

It's disgusting how Stein uses the deadly Toyota problem just to get an anti-climate change point in. He doesn't care about either. He just had to get a climate dig in so he used an unrelated deadly event. Clueless.

9. Roger Ebert wrote a great
review of Stein's Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. I can't find it online, now. My searching skills are compromised.

7. Yep
There was a time when I really dug Ben. I knew he was a nixon speechwriter or whatever but I still thought he was funny as hell. Then, more recently, he showed himself as one more voice in the chorus: "George W Bush is the greatest leader in the history of the world, so sit down, shut up, and do whatever Dick Cheney tells you to." Haven't had the time of day for him since.

15. Worst type of idiot: those who think they're smart
I run run run away from these idiots as fast as I can.

Issue is that some other idiots believe in their smartness.

11. Stein also said that the reason republicans are against healthcare is because they pay the majority
of taxes. He says they are more wealthy than democrats and that democrats are essentially lazy moochers, who don't pay taxes yet want a government hand out. He sucks and he a fucking moron.
