1. A bad boy/girl who is leaving town should bring in a bag of asprins... |
|
...and hand them out to as many kids as will take them.
Or perhaps one class should pass the same pill from hand to hand. Possession is possession is possession after all. Repeat in as many classes as possible. Oh and for the final fillip when the administration refuses to suspend because it's a childish stunt, offer to prefer assault charges on those teachers who physically intervened to knock the pills from a kid's hand. It's damned near a certainty that there will be at least one.

2. Why do we as a country suffer fools, that run these schools? |
|
Every time I hear another brain-dead "zero-sense school" nazi story, I cringe and worry about our future.

6. How many days did the kids get who just HEARD about it? |
|
If it's five days for touching, shouldn't it be a day or two for hearing or retelling?

Why aren't they suspending 20% of the student body? Oh, that's right, it would cut into Big Pharma's profits. :silly:

8. Zero Tolerance is just a form of legalism... |
|
I was discussing Zero Tolerance with a friend. In his opinion we have these policies because administrators are basically covering their asses. They used to make decisions themselves based upon individual circumstances but that was not good enough for parents. So to avoid harrasment and lawsuits they implemented Zero Tolerance, and everyone thought it was great - until one of their kids got caught in the net.
I however have a broader view.
To me Zero Tolerance policies are another indication that the nation is moving steadily towards legalism (a classist form of legalism to be sure.) People are no longer demanding that decisions be made based upon the surrounding circumstances using reason to formulate a judgement. Freedom of interpretation and consideration of variable situations creates far too much ambiguity for these people. Soon we won't need any judges (look at minimum mandatory sentencing for example or the three strikes laws) OR juries. We will just follow the letter of the law in every case. Freedom is disappearing in this country.
Reason and freedom go hand in hand. Freedom is ambiguous, uncertain, unstructured, even chaotic, yet open to numerous possibilies. Freedom can only be tolerated by those who can handle such situations intellegently and without caving in to fear. Unfortunately most people cannot really handle freedom for that very reason. For them thinking is difficult and frustrating, they take no joy from it, they would rather be secure and unburdened by the need to make sense of things.
Our society is beginning to close and soon all the possibilities and opportunities that are the benefits of freedom will be lost to us.

This is a good example of what happens when people who can't think follow rules they don't understand.
