Started to sound like a libertarian rant. Really, the reason police have had to uparm over the past 40 years, is because the citizens (and criminals) have been getting access to more sophisticated weapons. Anybody remember the incident in LA where the cops were so outgunned by two! robbers, they had to quickly buy a sniper rifle from a local gun shop (which sold giant guns to civilians) in order to stop the carnage? Blame the irresponsible citizens and NRA, not the police. They are merely reacting to a threat they found increasingly difficult to cope with.

3. Yes, that was a clear violation of Posse Comitatus. |

but I've been trying to warn people since the media popularized the S.W.A.T. units in big city police department that every department was slowly being militarized to get around Posse Comitatus.
Militarization of local police departments started under Nixon and was in direct response to his extreme paranoia over the antiwar movement.
