5. Before you get too happy...

the problem I have with this clip is the following: blakeman doesn't say saddam kicked the inspectors out, he says saddam wasn't letting the inspectors go everywhere. Both men were technically right - the inspectors were in iraq and were inspecting sites. however, there was some disagreement about the conditions under which certain sites could be visited and saddam was playing some games there.

This is NOT a defense of george bush or karl rove. i don't claim WMD existed. But I think shuster and corn heard something that was not said.

10. Wrong!
Before the invasion Saddam had relented and was then allowing inspectors free rein. He was letting inspectors go anywhere. Several years earlier, yes, he was restricting them. Faced with war he allowed them to go anywhere. Check you facts. Dang, GOP propaganda is everywhere. Imagine that.

12. Exactly! Saddam Hussein gave the inspectors "unfettered access"
I remember this as if it was yesterday. There are so many trolls on YouTube and elsewhere who to this day swear otherwise, though, and has been my main bone of contention over the past 7+ years.

Iraq Offers Inspectors 'Unfettered Access'

Sept. 24 2002

Hussein Adviser Promises Cooperation; Britain Releases Detailed Dossier on Iraq’s Weaponry

An adviser to Saddam Hussein told reporters today that U.N. arms inspectors would have "unfettered access" to any site in Iraq — hours after British Prime Minister Tony Blair unveiled a long-awaited dossier on Iraq's weapons program.

In a press conference in Baghdad, Saddam adviser Amir al-Sa'adi was asked if the weapons inspectors could go wherever they wanted.

"Wherever they want to go," he replied. "This will be the subject of practical arrangement, in order so there's no misunderstanding about the procedures that have to be adopted during inspection. Mr. (Hans) Blix (the United Nation's chief weapons inspector) wants to do this coming here. We are complying."

The remarks came on the same day Blair released a dossier claiming the Iraqi leader has "military plans" to use chemical and biological weapons that could be launched with 45 minutes notice.

21. what really got me is that chimpy used this BS lie a few times with our M$M in office and he wasn't
called out on it, ever :argh:

it will be interesting to see how U.S. history books deal with that issue, and also using BS/forged foreign intelligence (as well as why rely on foreign intel on matters of war) about yellow cake, that made it into the 2003 SOTU even after being warned that it was dubious at best.

26. oh come on

...look there was lots of disinformation going on, admittedly, on both sides.

But this statement by an advisor to hussein is hardly proof that the inspectors could go everywhere...this was an advisor making a statement to the press. Do you think the advisor would say to the press "well we are going to let Blix and his teams go _almost_ everywhere" ? Its one thing to say something to the press at the high level and another to see it implemented at ground level.

The question really is, did they live up to this promise or not? I do also recall that Blix and his team did argue vociferously to be allowed to continue. I don't think he wanted to be anybody's fool. But please don't believe that Hussein was fully cooperating, come on now. And as we know today, the reason he was so duplicitous was not to hide WMD but in fact to hide that he had NO WMD.

15. it's hushtory! and it's already done!
recently, on local talk radio, a goonie said 'Saddam was building nukes and bio weapons...' etc and time was running out in '03 when bush saved humanity from the world's 4th largest, best armed military. All the callers then said 'thank god for president bush, who defied the dirty liberals who want to sell our kids to the enemy' etc ...

27. The USSR was a good thing
perhaps revolution is messy and so on, but building a world in which the working people were the deciders instead of gibbering 1/2 wits like...whathisname(?)...we know virually nothing about the USSR. The pig has spent billions lying, hiding facts and creating bs to confuse and mislead the people. In 1917, when the USSR came into existence, Russia had lost millions of soldiers in pointless WW1 (which was a battle between european powers over rights to set up colonies in 3rd world etc) yet within 50 years USSR had become nuke power, had put men into space, had educated 250 million people, had best basic univeral health care system in world, had defeated nazism and helped China etc throw off the pig. The USSR made terrible mistakes, and too many innocent people were caught up in cold war paranoia, but we know nada about what SS was telling KGB nudge wink! Just look at what the 'cold warriors' did to US at same time? Vietnam cost 58000 US lives, for what? US military spending is equal to rest of planet combined, yet WTC was destroyed in broad daylight(!) The western mass media lies routinely, and lies about its lies, as if lying will save them/us. 4 million people died in 'Nam, rob mcnamara said, mostly innocent civilians. 1 million Iraqis have died as result of fraudulent war. Yet the pig lies and baldly says only 1000 or so people died! 2.6 million americans are in prison, mostly for drugs; though the 'war on drugs' is a blatant fraud...the US government/biz men are biggest grower/producer/seller/smugglers of drugs in all of history. No wander the USSR fell. Stalin was a hero (though it take another generation to realize it)... Humanity is doomed because the pig liars must lie until it's too late to tell truth and save the planet from catastrophe. God is pissed of, but at US, not the poor old Soviet Union...just watch. You'll see

9. I remember it well.
Bush ordered the inspectors out before "Shock and Awe". Saddam was bending over backward to cooperate with inspectors in hopes of preventing an invasion. He knew Bush was determined to invade. That was clear to anyone with two brain cells.

Their version is revisionist history. Their version of the truth simply doesn't wash. This is why they are making this effort-to cover up the truth and change minds.

I might have doubts about the HCR bill. I might have doubts about the Administration's true feelings about Wall Street regulation. I have doubts about many issues in my life. About Bush and Iraq there is no doubt. He lied us into war all the way. They fabricated evidence in support of WMDs and the urgency for war. No fucking doubt.

Unfortunately, the people presenting the "news" are usually either too stupid or too compromised to do it.

17. "The Inspectors were not allowed in to the sites the UN requested..."
I believe I have that quote right.... what specifics sites is he talking about here? Fictional ones, just like those fictional WMDs, and no, not the ones the US sold to Saddam to kill Khurds 15 years prior to the invasion.

Inspectors were in Iraq and they found NOTHING! These people should be strung up to apologize publicly to relatives of the dead in Iraq, American and Iraqi alike!!!

18. They have an easy out.
Whenever they look bad (and that's pretty often), they can blame it on the "liberal media", and their lemming followers will then dutifully dismiss it.

They have their followers wrapped around their little finger.

difference. The MSM doesn't get a pass from me by getting all tough now. They'll do the same with EVERY major issue we face. Once the damage is done they'll finally analyze it a little but for the truth.

23. I do this all the time. I owe Penn and Teller for teaching me it.
Its called "willing suspension of disbelief". It's what makes magic work. You are willing to suspend your belief in reality as long it does not cost you anything. Once, as P&T, illustrated, you have to lay money on the line that in fact Teller does have "your card" in his breast pocket across the stage.... you believe Teller has your damn card in his breast pocket across the stage.

BECAUSE ITS A TRICK!!

I encourage any one out there when confronted with the stupid TO BET THEM. See if you make some money. Of course only bet them if you have the evidence on you like on your cell phone. My cousin carries a copy of the constitution with her all the time and I have a nice collection of videos on my cell phone. :smoke:

PS Bet them in cash. Reach into your wallet and pull out bills. Even go to the extreme of saying you can go to the ATM machine and withdraw cash... like adults do to pay them. That way you can accompany them to collect your bet in CASH.

Do not take markers... unless you charge extra and have enforcement resources. :spank:
