1. Not for my kids
I'll put them in a private school (a liberal one) before allowing their eyes to see those fascist textbooks.

6. It's the School Boards - and it ain't just Texas
There may be a few pockets of sanity somewhere in the land, but for the most part, check your local school board and chances are you'll find a lot of "Palin 2012" bumper stickers. I don't agree with them, but I grudgingly admire the way the Assembly of God members have gotten themselves onto school boards. They've been working away at it since before Jim Bakker's downfall and Sister Sarah is one of them. Her views are those of millions of the people who decide what is right for your school district. Sure, sure, Texas is uniquely horrible in it's gall. but have YOU gone to your local school to see what is in the history book your local school is teaching from? Attended a School Board meetng? Know any Liberal types on your School Board?

I don't mean to say that ONLY AoG'ers are there. Quite a few Baptists and Mormons, too. Hey, if they outwork Liberals at the local level, who's to blame? Call your local Democratic Central Committee and ask if there are any open seats - chances are good that there are. It's a starting point and will ease you into local politics.

And ALL politics is local...

9. I bet in their version Texas also won the Alamo.
This is the most blatant move of political indoctrination I've heard of since the Hitler Youth movement. Speaking of re-writing history, at this point I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they ended up getting Karl Rove to write the new books. The right sure has lost it since Obama became prez.

10. I find what's going on in Texas scary. This kind of ignorance can certainly spread.
It makes me wonder if I should be taking a closer look at the curriculum in our school district, although I'm pretty sure the parents where I live wouldn't tolerate this kind of BS, even though many of them are Republicans. I think they would still agree that civil rights is important, as is our third president who authored the Declaration of Independence. I am surprised, however, that there aren't more sane people in Texas willing to make a stand.

11. Why let the Texans make our textbooks? Didn't they
secede from the Union anyway?

I guess I need to pay VERY close attention to what my kids will be learning in the near future.

12. Re-write history, science, etc.
This is just a form of brainwashing with rightwing facts.

The Jesus Camp rightwingers have led the way and the schools are next.

If there's anything we've seen about the right it is that FACTS mean nothing. If you don't like them--change them.

Ideology is everything.

I feel so sorry for the future of this country and the world. It's on a fast downhill streak.

I'm 47 and most of my life's over but my 20 and 17 year old will have to live with this bullshit.

13. Get Involved and Stop This Madness
The tip off to this kind of stuff should have been when President Obama wanted to address students last year. All these loons came out of the woodwork and they're the same ones begging to get on school boards. Anything to fight this liberal/socialist takeover of America. Pres. Obama and the Democrats are the enemy. Democrats and Liberals have to get involved. There are too many of these looney birds out there trying to change history to fit their own needs. They're crazy.
