No doubt as soon as they saw the Parkinson's sign they knew how to react. As they have been trained to do.

This kind of behavior has become all to common since Reagan. It is the exact opposite of Christianity. But these people believe themselves to be Christian. They are not. This treatment of the sick and poor is far more akin to fascism than Christianity.

Why should anyone be shocked and surprised by these people's actions
Next thing you know they will outside in my front lawn mocking my wife for getting cancer.
It is actions like these that will bring an end to this as s widespread movement.

9. Don't capitalize the "c". They don't deserve it. |
|
I always put it in quote. They don't deserve to claim they are followers of a man who preached social justice.
They are the assclowns that took a religion based on peace, love, and acceptance and turned it into a hateful death cult obsessed with the end times and furthermore deny all reason in lieu of fairy tales with no demonstrable fact to back them up.
I may be an agnostic...but I know where I came from. They made me.

13. You're right. They're not Christians, they're "Christianists." |
|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChristianismWe should start using this word instead of "Christian" on DU who refer to people who behave this way and claim to be Christians. They're not Christians, and labeling them as such is unfair to Christians who believe Jesus would be horrified by what these people are doing and, if he were here on earth, would be kicking a few asses.

I know people like them. Unlike in wealthier states they continually vote to worsen their situation. There's a reason why there are fewer and fewer jobs in Ohio...and they contribute to it.
I know dipshits are everywhere...but those who slit their own throats and sheeple along are especially repugnant to me...when you grew up with a few of them and see them chide others for not making it while they work at a job their daddies gave them.
Do I hate Ohio? No. I hate Ohioan Republicans. Never heard the N word dropped when in private by so many "upstanding white folks".

19. One of my former best friends (from a group that called me the "smart one") is a perfect example. |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 04:30 PM by YOY
White guy. Good looking. Always got the girls. Started working for his father a year after college and after a failed career working for a temp agency (actually working for the agency as sales...not as a temp).
Not a nasty guy to begin with...his father though...Limbaugh always playing in his office. Didn't really disgust me until later. His father set the mold.
The father got divorced after high school. It was kind of a shock. I don't get along with my dad too well but he said something of my former friend's father that I will never forget: "He claims to be a Christian...but the god he worships is Mammon." My old man was right. My former friend's father is a unthinking hoarding greed head who will pick up any opinion that claims to be in his finacial gain. It destroyed his marraige. That opinion would be Rush Limbaugh and so called "conservatives" who are anything but fiscally beneficial. It was also the only bond he could instill in his son.
He has become his father. Divorced his pretty wife because she wanted to live in California (better position for her work) and he wanted to stay in Cleveland. She wanted to travel and he was scared terrorists would attack him if he traveled in France (no shit...the look my world traveling ass gave him was priceless). No kids thank God. A mid-30s version...but like his father he hates. Hates and does so illogically. Consumed by greed...working hard for money he will likely never get to enjoy because he's so busy making more.
Guy started Loving dropping the N word when out of earshot of other people. Jews, Black, Hispanics...anyone who wasn't white like him. Ironically a Catholic...and hated by the Evangelicals he put into power.
Started calling me a "Liberal" before I started calling myself one. Out of one side of his mouth he called me "the smart one" and the other he spits words that he thought would insults me. Last time I saw him I just shook my head and called him "The biggest p***y I have ever met. All talk and no goddamn walk." I just walked away and haven't seen him for 4 years.
If I see him I would have nothing but "told you so" for him...but why. He'd just start railing about socialism if I know the path he has taken.
It's a lonely one and it destroys others around him.

Felt like I was reading a novel. Yes your father was right. He could probably see hypocrites a mile away. I feel the same way you do. When people like us, who recognize our own 'failings' we can see it pretty good in others. Where we feel a little more humble towards spirituality they have self righteous attitudes. It's a wall they put up so they don't have to face themselves.
When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” And they went on to another village. (Luke 9:54-56)

67. I think most of us have known at least one sort like this |
|
Matter of fact, my own dad became one as he got older. When I was younger, I laughed at the darkie jokes he learned at his place of work. The military showed me a different side to other races than that which I learned from my dad. I managed to stay on good terms with my dad right up until his passing. But it was tough for me in later years, to have a conversation with him. I'd just nod my head in concurrance as he'd go on about the N****rs and the S***s. To the best of my knowledge, he'd never been on the losing end of some race-influenced event. It was just a concoction brewed from his own paranoia, the accents on negative news from every quarter, and his having spent 33 years immersed in a job that was dominated by whites. This was in Toledo Ohio, BTW - not that I think that fact means much.

70. Toledo has two neighborhoods right next to each other around TSU. |
|
One of the best (most affluent) neighborhoods and one of the worst (crime/poverty) neighborhoods.
Really close to each other. Very different in makeup. Like a lot of Urban Ohio it is very "unofficially" segregated.
A black colleague and myself (both from Cleveland) have discussed just how different and "unofficially" segregated neighborhoods in Ohio are.
My little community in South Arlington looks like a Benetton commercial. Where I grew up was lilly white...with a few Asian and Black specks. When one childhood friend (Jamaican by decent) moved in to the neighborhood (early 80s) somebody painted "Niggers go home" on their garage. My friend's family was (and still is for all I know) well educated family with 2 doctors and some Klan WT thought they could speak for the rest of us.
I'll never forget that one.
Many folks including my father (a city official) got together and painted over it for them. I may not get along with my old man for many reasons...but he is no racist.

Don't you know that people get cancer and Parkinson disease just so they can get a handout? :eyes: Most of those folks there look a step away from a heartattack with the weight and anger.
My grandmother had Parkinson. Not much they could do back then. She loved sewing and gardening. She couldn't do anything she couldn't even feed herself her hands shook so much.

This should be on every news program every day.
And they should name the people and say this is not what the original tea party patriots stood for.
"I"ll decide when I give you money."
Vile.
And that asshole Pence liked it to what the anti war protesters did. When?

who support mandates. I've seen statements from people calling themselves democrats who support forcing people to buy premiums they cannot afford from the corrupt HC Ins. industry, that sound pretty much the same, insinuationg that those who ware uninsured eg, are just selfish and a burden on the rest of us. In fact, I heard Obama say it.
How else can you defend forcing the working poor, by threatening them with fines or jail, to contribute to the profiteers, UNLESS you accuse them of being selfish and a burden? Way to get others angry at them and become blind to the reality of our system.
I think that is why this administration never responded to the tea-baggers. After all, they were doing the dirty work of getting people angry at the uninsured, oblivious to the fact that they were making the case for mandates. Democrats could not do it back then. They were still playing the game of pretending to be for a PO.
So, tea-baggers are a bit more aggressive about it, but not saying anything I haven't seen on so-called democratic boards from supporters of this bill.

53. President Obama said uninsured Americans are selfish? |
|
When did he say that? I must have missed it ... thanks for the info.

58. He didn't use the word 'selfish' he used the word 'burden' on everyone else. |
|
It was pretty disappointing to hear him repeat that Republican talking point. He said, that while we must help those who need it, that that doesn't mean that those who simply choose not to buy coverage, should be allowed to be a burden on the rest of the us' or words to that effect. Implying that there are so many people in this country without insurance simply because they don't want to pay for it and now they will have to. For years, this was the argument from the right. And yet, in real life, I have never met such a person. And, I would have liked to ask him, 'do the tens of thousands who die each year for lack of treatment, do so just to take advantage of the rest of us?'
That was a different 'Obama' to the one who was opposed to mandates in the campaign, because as he said back then 'it would be wrong to force people to pay for something they cannot afford'. Healthcare is a right, I thought that was the position of Democrats.
Also, it reminded me of the first time I realized that Democrats were using another Rightwing talking point when Hillary et al started blaming the Iraqis 'for not taking repsonsibility and standing up for their own country'. That was during the Bush administrtation. We invade and destroy their country, then blame them for it. Repeating what Bush et al had been saying. Then I started seeing it on Democratic boards, where before it was only Republicans who had the gall to do that.

and also am very disappointed that he won't fight for single payer/public option. I'd vote for him again tomorrow, and wonder which principle he'd be willing to negotiate away ...
You make excellent points. :hi:

96. He's fighting, but for what he believes in. |
|
He's helping to transfer public money to private industry. He's a good fighter, so was Bush. If Obama had believed in Single Payer or even a Public Option, he would have won. But he doesn't. The subsidies that people will get, are not for their benefit, it was simply a brilliant way to funnel public funds to private business. Is there any reason why the Insurance Industry should be handling those subsidies at all? It's all so clear now.

41. Make no mistake about it, people, this is not some fringe opposition group |
|
This is the mainstream opposition. They get their words, their opinions, their very thoughts from Fox.
Like their minority leader in the Senate, they have nothing to propose as an alternative, they only offer no.
They say no to reform, they say no to nominations, they say no to ANYTHING that might be proposed by Obama or Democrats. Or, rather, they don't say it. They scream it.
Where we have ideas and counter-ideas, they have anger. Where we propose dialogue, they parrot what they hear on Fox.
Just yesterday there was a big article on Mitch McConnell, explaining that while he and his party have nothing to offer, they are experts at delay, denial, obstruction, and not as a means, but as their very goal. They will not stop until they make the shelling of Fort Sumter seem like a tea and crumpets party at a retirement home.
While I retain hope that common sense will ultimately prevail, I just look at this video and calm myself with the knowledge that my wife and children all have German passports.
Just in case.

Who are generally misogynist, homophobic, and racist. They're cowards alone, but put them in mobs and they'll show their true colors.
Wasn't the Christian Right also formed, in part, as a response to the ending of segregation?

56. Does anyone know where in Ohio? Exactly when? Why they gathered? Where? |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 09:30 AM by peacetalksforall
Is anyone from Ohio who lives near by who can verify that the man had Parkinsons? If yes, everything about the gathering should be assembled - it should be blasted far and wide - who what when where why the teabaggers were gathered to prove there intent for their gathering to point the way and prove who they were. It should be documented for all the fine points. Then exposed. Repeat it. Call it in to Washington Journal with the details. Get a Congressperson to work it into their five minutes at the opening session of the House. This video, if it can be substantiated that the man is a Parkinson victim, should not fade away. It is testimony to attitude and exposes who the teabaggers are.
Does anyone know where in Ohio this took place?
How does a person know who uploaded the video?
This video should not fade away. It should be investigated to determine whether the guy's sign was truthful and go from there. If true, it is a classic example. If true, their behavior is like a Michelle Bachmann dream moment of her effectiveness to generate hate. It is our Michelle Bachmann Magic Moment to catch the effect of her hate speech in progress.
It would also be interesting to know what Jean Schmidt would say in an interview about the event.

57. Everyone has a brain of their own |
|
Why are so many giving this group of true haters a victim status and blaming it on Tv talking heads or their parents??? My mother was an insane member of the John Birch society. I grew up around a lot of white racist pigs or people who worshiped $$$ as end all in the 80s. But I have to, like everyone, form my own opinion as I grow through life. None of those folks are easily influenced 'kids' on that video. They talk about 'personal responsibility' and this is theirs -they own this. They have chosen to be what they are. No religion, Tv or parent can force you to cultivate such hate. They live in the USA and have access to every form of information to form an opinion as everyone else does (newspapers, books -even the bible could lead you to a different slant for sure , TV, radio etc.). &... if thought because you were a white male you were safe from them turning on you at some point ...look again

64. I hear this every day that people need to just get a job and stop getting hand outs. |
|
Many are on some sort of government assistance and don't even realize it. One said she didn't have insurance but she survived by just going to the emergency room until she got on Medicare. Next time I saw her she was filing for medicaide to get extra help as she says "Obamacare" is not good. I can go on and on about this..its pretty sad. Fox "News" is the biggest problem. My mom won't even let us in her house when we are going to drive a few thousand miles to see her because of Glen Beck making her feel like the world is out to get her. She has her guns and doesn't want to lose her privacy (we are liberal and very suspicious). Then she has gone off on the church thing about how we don't go to church....She never took me to church growing up and i actually got my brother and sister to ride bikes with me to go to church (to mainly eat the donuts). She thinks it's terrible that I am pro-choice then I reminded her that she had an abortion once. Glenn Beck has brain washed people...he should be arrested. He is very cult like. I wouldn't doubt if he got people to drink coolaide soon:(

66. What ugly, sour rotten souls those people have! |
|
The old man was very classy. How can those people say "No handouts" to that old guy? Looks to me at his age he has probably put quite a lot into the system and he is entitled to health care now. They don't really want to know this old man's story, they just want to see him as some sort of leech. Maybe they fear being old and sick. I don't know what the statistics are, but I have to tell myself that these soul-less people are a minority, they just have loud mouths.

I'm surrounded by assholes like these people every day. The all come from the school of "Fuck you , I've got mine..." I can't stand these fuckers and I often let them know exactly how I feel about them. One-on-one they are pretty much nut-less. In groups they are loud and obnoxious.
I hate this state, not because of the geography, but the population.

Fortunately, LBJ had signed Medicare into law before my dad was diagnosed so he got good care here too. It's too bad we can't get Medicare for everyone here in this country. It's the obvious solution.

I find this to be vile, callous and inhumane. I am sure the men doing this think they are real big studs. I have news for them; they are cowards and bullies. Disgusting how a country that is supposed to be the "beacon of hope" to the world can produce sociopathic automatons like this. People like this make me want to leave this country and let animals like these rip each other apart.
