Msnbc’s Dylan Ratigan and Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., discuss whether the proposed amendment, the Public Option Act, which would open up Medicare to all Americans, will convince wavering Democrats to vote in support of the health reform bill.

11. More than you'd pay if your employer pays for most of your insurance,
but a heck of a lot less than you'd pay if you were buying in the private market. An educated guess I heard a while back was in the neighborhood of $10,000/year. Since I'm in the demo that pays ~$20,000/year for private insurance (thank heaven my husband's job gives benefits!), I'd jump at the chance for a Medicare buy-in.

16. Who could know?
Right now Medicare cost relates to all the seniors in the plan. Opening it to younger and healthier people should reduce the costs and price pressures.

10. Thanks for the list. My rep's not on it, yet.
Poor Rep Woolsey! I've been making jokes about linsey-woolsey ever since she's been making appearances on MSNBC, and here I find her middle initial really is "C." (Linsey-woolsey was an early fabric blend, of linen and wool, natch.) I wonder whether her parents knew what they were doing to her?

keep working for progressive candidates, enough of them in the Senate Congress can enact independently. There's a will there's a way, to get all 3 branches on the same page. I'm not as worried by the court ruling on campaign financing all it takes is ad campaigns to vet candidates more closely before election day all more easy via the net these days. The net when used right gives a fair and balanced picture and when progressive states invest in broadband every candidate can get a fair hearing.

17. This bill needs hundreds of cosponsors - 74 is a great start - But.....
Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 06:32 PM by GreenTea
There are 435 members of the US House of Representatives. (Also 5 non-voting delegates).

There are 100 Senators.

Congress is made up both the House and the Senate.

There are 541 total members.

Again, 74 is a great start - but the bill will needs a couple of hundred cosponsors.

19. Huh?
When have you ever seen a Senator co-sponsor a bill in the House of Representatives?
It doesn't work that way.

So, 77 co-sponsors out of 253 Democratic House Reps is pretty darn good ;)

21. Uh, pay attention....it ultimately needs to go through the senate to pass....
Edited on Thu Mar-18-10 06:36 PM by GreenTea
The bill could have ALL 435 members of congress cosponsoring it, still it would need the senate, (and as I wrote, the bill needs at least a couple of hundred cosponsors, just in the House)....

But in the end, it'll also need a majority of senators who are for it as well, if you don't have the majority of senators - The Bill Goes Nowhere!

As I also wrote, "74 (now 77) is a great start!" ("74 + 3 = 77 now ---> 77 - Tx4obama")

20. Hecklers Beware
Alan Grayson is a heavy hitter and his slugging percentage is off the chart. Watching him do his thing can provoke hope, but the best part is that he often looks like a bemused stand up comedian - great confidence and presence, and no one yet has laid a glove on him politically. He's just getting started. I wish he'd been around when that boob DeLay was in Congress...

24. I had to give the guy some money
And I have sent over a wine-induced email. He needs to know:

1. No one can call him a girly-man
2. No one can say he didn't try
3. For those of us with Republican Congress Critters - he's OUR Congressman. He's mine. He represents my POV far more than that tool Leonard Lance ever will.
