1. "I want to contine to be responsible for killing |
|
Americans that have no access to health care." ? Did he get real or what?
Say 50m people today with no health care yields 22k dead per year from lack of. This bill covers 30m, so 20m still not covered. Would this bill still result in 8k preventable deaths per year (40%)?
I guess anyone would have to say "I saved 14k deaths per year"? What are all the other members of congress saying after all these years of unnecessary deaths and 2m bankruptcies per year from health care bills? "We have the best health care system in the world." ??

4. Dennis is a true progressive |
|
That's what any progressive would have done. If they killed Social Security in 1935 because it didn't contain medicare and medicaid we would be still in the great depression.

5. So sick of the Dennis bashing |
|
Would love to see what many of these people would think if the final vote actually came down to Dennis and he voted against it causing it to fail. He would then be directly responsible for the massacre in November and the huge amount of negative press the dems will recieve. I know this has been discussed to death, but I dont see how anyone could see this bill failing as anything other than a huge blow to the democratic party. We all know this bill is weak and doesn't really do much to change the status quo, so at this point I am more worried about the political repercussions of this bill failing than the negative aspects within the bill itself. It sucks that this is all we could get, but Jesus Christ can we be realistic for 5 seconds and acknowledge that our political system blows and we have to take what we can get.

If I have to give the right wing well the elites of the right wing anyway credit for one thing it has to be they see the big picture. While this health care bill isn't what we want but it's a start, you need a foundation to start with, in sports terms don't expect a football team to win the Superbowl when they only win one or two games the previous year. Liberals and Democratic activists need to look at the long term instead of acting like that bratty kid who takes his ball and goes home because he isn't getting the catches he deem he should get.
Because if liberals act like the bratty kid you can forget ever getting a public option or single payer and any positive legislation President Obama wants to put forth between now and 2012 you can forgot that because the Republicans will be bigger ass hats and really block everything. And say President Obama goes down in 2012 are you going to feel good about potentially a two term presidency of Mitt Pander bear Romney or Red Queen Sarah Palin? Because I'm sure those two are going to fight for you and your particular issue and I'm sure they won't appoint more right wing judges on the federal level and certainly not to the supreme court where they can join the other five right wing judges that said corporations are people now.
What's more important building for future where you can have a progressive house, progressive senate and a progressive white house or act like kids and throw the model car away because you discover it's going to take more than 10 minutes to put together the Bat mobile?
This is not a scare tactic this is reality if some of you do decide to remove yourself from the political process you give up ALL your rights to complain if the Republicans gain back power.

I dont really liken the current bill to the equivalent of a bratty kid taking his ball and leaving. I also disagree that this bill isn't a first step, I dont think I need to take the time to explain to you all the positive things in this bill, all the things that will effect a lot of people in this country in a very positive, potentially life saving way. Yes, in order to get these positive elements, they had to put in a lot of bullshit to appease corporatist douche bags, and even with all these compromises there are some that still dont think its weak enough. Many of our elected representatives are not great and getting them to vote on things that help the people of this country in even the slightest way is like pulling teeth. With that in mind, the fact that Pelosi is probably going to be able to get so many dickheads to come together and actually do something kind of good for once in their life, is very inspiring.
The point is you have to work within the system and be realistic, Dennis came to realize this and made the right decision in the end.

10. Self-betrayal is the most poisonous |

Unfortunately, with the anti-union excise tax & the mandate on the heads of $10/hr underclass... his self-betrayal puts tire-tracks on my head.
