Views on DU: 778 | Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio announced on Wednesday he would switch his vote on the Democrat-led healthcare reform bill and support the legislation even though it does not create a public option. Kucinich’s decision came two days after he spoke with President Obama aboard Air Force One on their way to a rally in his district. In a Democracy Now! exclusive, we spend the hour with Kucinich and former presidential candidate Ralph Nader for an in-depth discussion on healthcare, the Obama administration, the Iraq war and more. 2 of 6 Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader: A Discussion on Health Care, Politics and Reform http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ3fBB0KCyE 3 of 6 Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader: A Discussion on Health Care, Politics and Reform http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ILxvKMJZXg 4 of 6 Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader: A Discussion on Health Care, Politics and Reform http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYNV07C2N74 5 of 6 Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader: A Discussion on Health Care, Politics and Reform http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmNYGsuweX8 6 of 6 Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader: A Discussion on Health Care, Politics and Reform http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuqSmiRyp18http://www.democracynow.org/2010/3/18/dennis_kucinich_and_ralph_nader_ahttp://www.democracynow.org/http://kucinich.house.gov/http://www.nader.org/

That he approves of contained in the Bill, he doesn't like the Bill, but because he doesn't want to be blamed for the Bill failing, he is voting for it. Without any quid pro quo, without any concessions?
What a sorry display of Whatever that all was. (I am about to listen to the Nader sections of this.)

3. I like Dennis's approach here, not the bill but the reasons for his vote. |
|
Life is not all or nothing and then life ends. He has made his position clear and he will continue to work for what is the moral and principled goal. If he had voted against it, he would likely have been blamed for the bill going down and the end result would have been worse.
Life is always a process, here a little, there a little, line upon line, precept upon precept to use a Biblical phrase. That's the way nature works, that's the way society works. To put yourself in the way of forcing others to forgo what they have mistakenly convinced themselves is a real social good would close off further opportunities for success.
When FDR was shunted aside in the late 20s by the high rollers and Hoover had his time in the sun, did that stop the New Deal from taking place? I would argue it was the reason for the New Deal eventually coming about.
If Dennis holds to his position and continues to work with might and main w/ any and alo who favor a moral and just system of health care, he will be a reason for the eventual success. And I believe there is no way that this present bill will be sustainable, that the insurance companies will be able to restrain themselves from trying to make every penny they can make at the expense of the weakest and most vulnerable in society.
I'm still with Dennis. He can use this time as a springboard to greater things and eventual success. He is right about the wars we're engaged in and he's right about health care. When you're right, the rocks themselves will eventually rise up and start chanting for single payer, health care for all.

4. I know what you are trying to say, and normally I would agree with |
|
you. But not this time. I believe Kucinich has made a career-ending error. He didn't want to be responsible for ending the bill? Why would he feel responsible; the Kupak crowd is far larger and more adamant than DK? He likes and wanted to help Obama. Mother of God what does this man Obama have to do to let liberals know that he is not on their side. He is a walking, talking corporatist. Yes, Dennis is right about many things. But Churchill said: "never, never, never, give up." Dennis gave up...To fight another day? Maybe. But not nearly as convincing. Nor, with at least this follower.

5. I don't see that this is about Dennis |
|
It is solely the Democrotic Party and their lack of support for Dennis and a public plan....One person can only do so much -when you have the power of the Presidency and the entire House against you, you have to pick your battles. Despite the public support for Dennis' initiatives, this was unwinnable......Sad for the people in that it is a classic illustration of how much say we have in our Government... Dennis has done more to push public health care 'within the system' than any one person in the Republicon or Democrotic Party - hats off to you Dennis, and the Democracy Now for presenting this.
