Summary: (FYI, Cenk is in London as he just spoke at the Guardian's http://www.guardian.co.uk/changingmediasummit|Changing Media Summit>.) Guest host RJ Eskow (Healthcare Consultant & HuffPo Contributor) and Ana discuss a new French television show where people believe they're actually shocking others for money (they don't realize actors are involved and the shocks are fake). It's going to be part of documentary on the manipulative power of television.

PS---Check out (and subscribe to) our new channel, . As the name suggests, it's all great interviews with members of Congress, Media Matters reps, notable media figures, authors, journalists, reporters, conservatives (yes, conservatives) and much more.

2. I heard this discussed on NPR yesterday....
Apparently 80 percent of the contestants "shocked" the victim when ordered to by the game show host or when encouraged by the audience. That exceeds the response in Stanley Milgram's experiment. They interviewed one man who said he was appalled by what was happening, yet he felt compelled to participate, against his conscious will, i.e. he wanted to protest, but was completely unable. At least, that's his story now (and it might very well be the truth).

It's a pretty shocking story (no pun intended). The producers were ultimately asking whether fatal reality shows would increase viewer ratings.

Holy shit.

3. I believe they came right out and said it was based on the Milgram experiments
Hard to believe they found a whole audience full of people who had never heard of that - human ignorance reigns, I guess.....

4. K&R.
Says a lot about mob mentality on both the left and the right.

6. Interesting stuff. Most people, I think, understand this, but don't usually realize
just how much they respond to social pressure, or how much the seeming lack of responsibility that comes with being part of a group affects their behavior.
