This is the thing. I've been thinking about all the brave Dems in congress who voted yes on the bill, and about how the right had made them the target of the craziest of attacks. And about how a certain, thankfully small, minority of people have been moved to hate rather than reason. And it reminded me of a speech I'd watched years ago in a public speaking class, by Bill Clinton.

Oh, he had been maligned by the right wing for everything under the sun. Repubs had no more class back then: "smear the opponent nonstop, don't let truth or logic get in your way," seems to have been their strategy for some time. They slandered Gore and Kerry too, calling them the most despicable of things. That's what they do and have done.

But President Clinton, only months after being elected and in an atmosphere where the repuke attack machine had been and still was in high gear and had generated blind hatred among some - much of the animosity around his opposition to the Viet Nam war in his youth, walked right into the lion's den and slayed.

He did the best he could with a poor deck of cards.
While similar attitudes exist on the right still and even worse, the country has moved away from some of it's most arcane beliefs.
Obama is facing the same bigots (who believe that they have a DIVINE right to the Presidency) who want to turn the clock back on the progress made, this time they WILL fail!

Hillary would have been attacked on basis of gender.
