she doesn't understand what it's like to be sick. She doesn't understand how insurance works. But at least she's asking some questions.

Her starting point seemed to be that she was going to find ways to be opposed to the bill, rather than just considering it strictly on its pros and cons.

6. Alan Grayson's a pretty cool guy. He debates teabaggres and doesn't afraid of anything.
I think DU could learn from how Socratic and calm he handled it.

14. I sometimes deal with someone who I think has borderline personality disorder.
She'll accuse, manipulate, interrupt, lie, throw fits, act hurt, but it's taught me not to get into the role she's trying to put me in during a disagreement. It's a valuable lesson to learn that you don't always have to react the way your opponent wants to, or how you have become used to.

Is hard to listen to. He lets her know he will be voting for the bill. He takes her name and thanks her, but she continues to prevent him from moving on. Maybe she is fortunate enough to have Cadillac care, and believes the death panels will make her take medicare, and not be able to choose any doctor she wants? However, she made me wonder where she got her information about medicare as being sub par health insurance coverage?

20. Her reasoning is based on volume
women have MORE issues, so the pay MORE. At least, that's the point she seems to be making. Im neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

The comparison being similar to large families and the cost of a home. Large families require more bedrooms and baths, so therefore pay more for a home than a smaller family.

It's volume, not a case per case comparison.

Jeez, gimmie a break.

I'm a Grayson fan all the way. The aly he was speaking to was informed, polite, asked pointed questions, and had appropriate concerns on some points. If she were a Dem, and spoke in support of the bill, we would have been proud of the way she presented herself.

Her real fault is that she disagrees with the bill.

Which, BTW, may DUers did, and still do - though perhaps not for all the same reasons.

She's engaged and is spending some time in her life to become informed on the issues and shes articulate. Right or wrong, this is the sort of debate we should be having amongst ourselves in America.

She is totally on board with the meme; Government Can't Do Anything Right or Efficient

She is extremely uninformed about the nature of modern health care and in particular the modern health insurance cartel.

From the US CONSTITUTION

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,............

Americans have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and it's up to our government to secure those rights for us.

The state of health care before this recent bill was abysmal for all Americas suffering foreclosure from medical bankruptcy, even if insured. For all staying in a wretched job because to get a new job means many illnesses yet to be treated could be denied under a "pre-existing condition" insurance clause, and many out of work American can no longer afford to buy private health insurance, which is for the most part, utterly exorbitant in price.

The previous system of two weeks ago denied 45,000 Americans a year of their right to any life at all! Because a Harvard study estimated that 45,000 Americans die each year simply because of lack of health care due to lack of health insurance.

If this young woman loses her good job and then has a hard time competing against the average of six other applicants available to fill every job opening currently in America, She could end up unemployed and having to buy private insurance at the rate of possibly $500 to $1,500 a month. That may change her point of view. Another thing she needs to know is that for profit insurance companies enjoy anti-trust protection that allow them to collude and fix prices. Big insurance enjoys laws from the late fourties designed in an era when health insurance itself was new and most health insurance companies were not for profit. A for profit industry with not-for-profit laws! Better than a money printing machine in your basement! And it's legal besides. All you have to do to enjoy it is to be a sociopath.

But, it was civil and a debate and Alan was very respectful of her.

That's what we all should be doing. Strive to become informed and participate in the debate.

The modern health care system in America simply denied too many Americans their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So it's up to our government to fix it. They must provide for the common good, after all.

PS - now all she needs to do is learn that it's perfectly legal in America to knowingly lie on your news broadcasts and that Fox News has a political agenda where truth isn't a consideration in their news shows

so she and her pals could edit it into a soundbite that encapsulates totalitarianism. He knew it...that's why he didn't say it. She kept asking him to "SAY it." Not one bit of his intelligent statement would have made it into the sound bite.
A lot classier than James O'Keefe, but working the same schtick.

I love him.
Digging my credit card out of my purse right now to send him a contribution.

Seems to me she would rather pay more through a payment plan with the hospital than paying $395 for insurance? How much does it cost to get hit by a bus if you have no insurance? It's way more than $395 or even $750. Wow, you really can get people to go against their own interests.

She was civil in her discourse and seemed to believe what she was saying.
This interaction proves beyond a shadow the talking is better than shouting.
