1. It's a dangerous dichotomy....
The more exposure someone like Palin gets, the more she is exposed as an idiot, AND the more legitimate appears.

Television has a creepy way of equalizing everyone, brainiac and idiot alike. (calling Marshall McLuhan)

5. I don't think Palin is as huge as we are told she is.
They had to bus people in to Searchlight, y'know. A crowd of thousands is big, but not a lot of people when you think of the total population. If there were thousands meeting and gathering all over the nation, I'd be real worried. But we don't get lots and lots everywhere. We see (moving) pockets of them. They really are unorganized.

Still, we do need to know dangerous bigots are real and here and speaking up now and they need to be watched.

6. I think she appeals to her followers the way the WWE female wrestlers appeal to
theirs.

She's not a trainwreck to her followers -- she's a bully like they are and it's cathartic for them to watch her bully others

8. Wait, Let Me Get This Straight
We're discussing the "lasting appeal" of a person who was introduced to the vast, vast, VAST majority of the American public 18 months ago?

I didn't watch the video, but I can answer the question of why people give two shits about Sarah Palin right now. For the same reason people pay attention to Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton and any other vacuous, vapid, cardboard cutout of a human being. For the same reason the Jonas Brothers sell records.

They appeal to a certain segment of the population because............THEIR TARGET AUDIENCE DOESN'T KNOW ANY FREAKIN' BETTER!!!

I'd be willing to bet you a shiny new dime RIGHT NOW that when we compare Sarah Palin's 2012 primary numbers to those of the LAST VP candidate on the losing ticket (who also left his job as an elected official almost immediately after losing the election), that she doesn't even come CLOSE to matching John Edwards' 2008 numbers.

The media are doing their damnedest to prop up this JOKE of a candidate and say she's some kind of ACTUAL contender, and I say let 'em do it. I'm PRAYING that the righties of this country are stupid enough to nominate Sarah Failin in 2012. Obama wouldn't even have to bother taking time away from his job to campaign. I'd bet you yet ANOTHER dime that she doesn't even get triple-digit electoral votes.

We don't need Glenn Beck or Sarah Palin to let us know about a faction of Americans who used to go to lynchings with their dads but don't talk about it any more exist.

We've known about them for years because they were listening to Rush Limbaugh. They only became more vocal when their heroes lost power in 2008 to (horror of horrors) one of those people.

Before they were teabaggers or dittoheads or FoxNews viewers they were Reagan Democrats and before that they were Wallace voters and before that they were Dixiecrats. We've known about them for a long, long time.

Sarah Palin has jumped the shark in terms of electoral politics. She would have trouble being elected dog catcher in Wasila right now. But she's still a going concern. She's gone from being governor of Alaska and almost Vice President to being a demagogue and rabble rouser who uses violent rhetoric the power of which to get one crazy, lonely, sick person to commit an act of violence she does not fully appreciate.

If Sarah Palin looked like Mother Teresa, she'd be a waitress at a truck stop or something -- no offense to waitresses. Did this conversation mention that? If so, I'd watch it.

14. Palin's followers primarily fall into two categories: Religious fundies
and men who fantasize being in bed with her.

A Democrat would never get away with the ignorance she's displayed in the last 18 months.
