3. Absolutely right on video. The sooner more dems catch on to this
the sooner they will realize any negotiations with Republicans is useless. They have no conscience. They are sociopaths and psychopaths. They are stalling for 08' and hoping the war, lies, and investigations don't catch up to them before a new congress comes about. Now is the time to turn up the heat. Please dems don't falter for any weakness or loophole will be taken advantage by the sleaze balls at this time.

6. the other thing Dems need to learn is visceral messaging like this. I teach about propaganda in
my college writing class, and went back and looked at presidential campaign commercials over the last 60 years.

The year Reagan did "Morning in America" that was entirely devoid of content, but had great emotional texture, Walter Mondale cut a commercial sitting at a desk talking into the camera with rational arguments about nuclear weapons.

He could have made the point the same way LBJ did with the Daisy commercial--hell, he could have run the same commercial and just changed the voice over at the end.

The one guy who gets this even better than George Lakoff is this Drew Westen. While it is important to talk in terms of values as Lakoff says, the element he leaves out is conflict. Conflict is what makes people care.

I always use this example in class:

Imagine you get bored playing solitaire in your cubicle job, so you start eavesdropping on the conversations in the cubes around you. On one side, someone is explaining how to use the fax machine. On the other, someone is getting fired.

Which would you listen to?

What if you don't know how to use the fax machine?

The problem with Democrats is they are explaining how to use the fax machine. The Republicans are firing someone. Even if they are wrong, people will listen to them, not the nice, boring fax expert.

8. Indeed it was!
He's a great actor, and I wish he could find some really good work on TV since I miss seeing him. I think they should pick him to play captain Kirk's son. He does a great Captain Kirk! ;-)
