Official Implies Karzai Uses Drugs

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro

Former U.N. envoy to Aghanistan Peter Galbraith on MSNBC's Daily Rundown this morning charged that Afghan President Hamid Karzai's "continued tirade raises questions about his mental stability."

He then added, "In fact, some of the palace insiders say that he has a certain fondness for some of Afghanistan's most profitable exports."

The Taliban would welcome him with an open noose.

1. "Most profitable exports" would be opium or Indica, I assume.
Neither of these causes a person to become mentally unstable, although they may contribute if someone is already headed in that direction.

The guy may be nuts, but I doubt its from using either of those plants.

2. I would suspect if he had a drug problem it would be more in the "upper" category
and I dod not believe they are known for those exports.

3. They are surely known for opium export.
I don't know if it gets turned into heroin before or after it leaves the country.

As for the Indica, I think you are correct. I doubt much of that is exported. It used to be, but times have changed.

5. I just went to check and found this - "UN: Afghanistan is leading hashish producer"
By VERONIKA OLEKSYN, Associated Press Writer – Wed Mar 31, 4:57 am ET

VIENNA – Afghanistan is not only the world's largest supplier of opium, it also is the global leader in hashish production, the United Nations said Wednesday.

The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime said it estimates that 10,000 to 24,000 hectares (24,700 to 59,300 acres) of cannabis are grown in Afghanistan every year and that this is used to make an estimated 1,500 to 3,500 tons of hashish annually.

"While other countries have even larger cannabis cultivation, the astonishing yield of the Afghan cannabis crop ... makes Afghanistan the world's biggest producer of hashish," UNODC chief Antonio Maria Costa said in a statement.

Afghanistan produces 145 kilograms (319 pounds) of hashish per hectare of cannabis, compared to about 40 kilograms (88 pounds) per hectare in Morocco, Costa said.

7. Ooh! Yummy!
I would love a nice fat ball of hash mixed with an equal amount of opium, and all squished together.

That would make a nice smoke!

Thanks for that info!

4. What doesn't Galbraith understand about the lure of easy money?
There is no honor among thieves.. not even among ex oil company executives set up as puppet dictators.

The whole purpose of the Afghan war is to block China's economic development in the area until the American Oil companies can get there and get set up. (These are the same Big Oil Companies BTW, that have reported Billions of dollars in profits and paid no taxes to the United States since 1998)

Karzai is just a good "Business Executive". He knows an opportunity when he sees it.

6. It's not like we're not accustomed to the mental instability of leaders due to drug problems...

8. And it's not like we're not accustom to
our government installing corporate friendly psychopath puppet regimes through rigged elections. It’s kind of like sowing the seeds today for tomorrow’s war; of course we can count on such acts to be profitable for the war industry; and it’s not like we’re not accustom to that either, so I guess that makes it OK.

And as long as our chickens don't come home too roost, who cares, it's the American way of spreading corporate friendly democracy. :sarcasm:
