If Anwar Al Aulaqi is indeed a member, talent recruiter for Al Quaida, and possible threat I would first like to see if he could be brought to justice.

If he was unable to be apprehended, and is a possible threat, then what would be the alternative in your view?

Please don't flame me/label me a right winger. I find that kind of dialog to be a little tiresome.

So what are our choices?

1) Kill him?

2) Capture him?

3) Ignore the threat?

3. become the sort of nation
to which other nations will extradite accused criminals with an expectation of humane and legal treatment

prosecute him if there is probable cause to do so

meanwhile become the sort of nation that half the world doesn't hate

4. I'll be frank. I hadn't heard of Anwar Al Aulaqi until today.

He has apparently become the poster child for calling out Obama yet again.

I don't know anything on Aulaqi except that he is a alleged member of Al Quaida. I really think it would be in Aulaqi's best interests to come forward, as an American citizen, to answer the charges leveled against him.

I do not believe that he has the right to hide from the US if they want to question him.

Perhaps he is innocent. Perhaps he is an evil fucker. I would hope for the former but prepare for the latter.

There is nothing that the USA will be able to do that won't be hated by some part of the world. You should learn to accept that.

7. Is this intended to excuse invading countries and slaughtering civilians?
"There is nothing that the USA will be able to do that won't be hated by some part of the world."

You're right, if the USA stopped harming others immediately, it will be lifetimes before many forget our past actions. And people hate us for our foreign policy but most can separate the US government from the American people in general. That said, are you really trying to tell me that we haven't done anything that was not overwhelmingly appreciated?

6. Arrest and trial or jeopordize our moral authority and standing, turn us into the pariah instead of
Him.

2. court test of Bush era Anti terrorism policies
Edited on Wed Apr-07-10 09:36 PM by szatmar666
I would guess this will go to the supreme court and lose simply because right wingers wouldn't want themselves subjected to harsh domestic anti terrorism laws simply because they endorse militant right wing interpretation of the second amendment.

8. Never gets old, wondered when this one would rear.
When there exists some bad policy, it's all good, it's strategy, you know, another for the SCOTUS Challenge.

9. Obama is a constitutional scholar & a master strategist, not a dummy
there is legal precedence and it will be stricken by the Supreme Court:

"As reaffirmed in cases like Reid v. Covert, 354 U.S. 1 (1957), American citizens have the same protections regardless of whether they are without or outside of the country. In that case, two American women who murdered their husbands on American military bases abroad were given the same protections under the Fifth Amendment regardless of the fact that they were located and committed the crimes abroad."

I will enjoy gloating while rubbing this post under your nose a couple years from now ;)

14. Yes, the Constitution has certainly been revived and he is the grand chess master.
Cheney was right about one thing. Obama is finding it real hard to give up any of his new powers given him by Bush. And socalled liberals and Progressives will trip over themselves to find every excuse and rationalization to explain away.

5. I wonder
Why someone like Grayson (He's got the balls) gets off their butts and calls another Church-esque Committee hearing on the actions, behaviors, and policies of the major intelligence agencies in this country. Not like we don't already know these people are the most evil fools on the planet, but I mean it may help?

10. knr. Obama might think he will garner right wing votes
when, in actuality, this action will merely lose his base even more.
the right wing wouldnt vote for him no matter what.
he loses big on this one.

12. It seems we have absolutely no rights as American citizens that the King of the United States,
I mean President of the United States, can't throw out in the name of THE WAR ON TERROR. Our King, I mean President, can murder American citizens, he can torture them, spy on them, send the Army after them, detain them for life without trial. He can bless them, I mean pardon them or commute their sentences. The King of the United States is above US law and can eat fried babies if he wanted and there is absolutely nothing this government would or could do about it.

Seems the RepubliCONS have created a Royal King for the United States and even Democratic Party Kings wont give up the power Cheney and the bushes gathered for them.

Long live the King of the United States.

13. al Alwaki has called for jihad against Americans because of the "U.S. invasion of Iraq and continued
U.S. violence against Muslims". He's very clear that it's not because of our "freedoms". He is an influential cleric and has called for Muslims living in America to join the jihad. This is being left out of the story. The U.S. has no right to assasinate him - they do want to silence him. He is part of the backlash because of our wars and occupation of Muslim countries. This did not get much coverage in the U.S. media. This is from CNN World.
