There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.

1. Of course we don't know, but I'd bet big money the family are rightwing "Christians."

OR if not that, some Orange County type selfish assholes who thought they could buy a kid as a cool, hip, accessory.

2. The parents must've violated a legal contract by doing this.
I can't believe the adoptive "parents" (I'm using this word a bit loosely) have the audacity to have no issues with traumatizing this child. They are unfit to raise children and should never be able to be parents ever again, ever.

8. Well ok then. Progressive Eugenics?
that scares the fuck out of me just as much as the idiot acts in which these adoptive parents engaged.

3. I knew a couple who had adopted an emotionally unstable child from Eastern Europe.
It got about as bad as it could get in terms of the child's behavior, short of murder. The adoptive parents were devastated by the horrible state of this child's mind. Not once did they consider shipping him back, alone, with a letter of apology. They did consider a formal relinquishment but decided that it would be done only as a last resort.

I can't imagine being so screwed up in the head that it would seem like a good idea to throw out a disturbed child that way.

4. This is very sad
and strange -- usually when this happens -- adoption disruption -- the agency the family worked with for the adoption takes the child and tries to find another family. I don't know all the details but it looks like the family sent the child back without discussing it with their agency (if they had one). I'm sure international adoption laws were violated here and the family will be investigated and charged.

Some agencies don't prepare families very well for adopting older kids. The kids and families often need alot of therapy to adjust to the new family dynamics.

9. Know some folks that adopted out of russia
girl suffers from severe fetal alcohol syndrome I think that's it. Lot of disabilities and common I guess but no excuse for this behaviour
Also a pet should not be something you can adopt and then give away either!! !

10. Am I reading this right?
The boy was sent back, alone, carrying a letter explaining he was being returned?

If so, the people who sent him are the most craven cowards of all time.
