MrsBettyBowers — April 09, 2010 — Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, bestows Sarah Palin with Bringing Integrity To Christian Homemakers' prestigious "Worst Mother in America" award to honor Sarah's heroic efforts in self-indulgent, absentee parenting.

1. This is really funny and the womans voice is perfect but I have to ask-
Why is it always the Moms? Why doesn't a guy get the worst father of the year award when his kids fuck up?

It's like the mom is the only one responsible for rotten kids.

2. In this case it's because the mother is the famous one
and I've never sat through an entire Sarah Palin speech where she doesn't make some mention of what a great mom she is. But getting back to the fame thing, I would cite the example of Albert Gore. All those times he got busted for pot, he was "Al Gore's kid" Never any mention of Tipper. I'm not saying you're completely wrong, but in this case it's about who's the famous hypocrite.

3. What you said
I cannot stand this woman, but attacking her as a mother is sexist bullshit.

11. Not if she bills herself as a "family values" candidate.
Then examples of her true family values are fair game. Goes to credibility, your Honor.

Same with a male "family values" candidate who cheated on his wife (John McCain) or divorced his wife while she was hospitalized (Newt Gingrich). You can criticize Democratic candidates who have family scandals or infidelities (John Edwards). But the hypocrisy of claiming to be good Christians who support family values while their actions blatantly prove otherwise almost always spells Republican.

20. I think that she deserves the attack because of the gross disconnect
between the theory of her being a "good mother" and the practucum: what has fallen out in experience.

perhaps if she spent more time paying attention to her duties to her children and less time in her weak attempt to snatch the spotlight, her daughter might not have taken the course of action she took.

As a mother myself, I cannot give her a pass for how she has proceeded. I've raised a daughter to the age of majority without becoming a grandmother in the process; and that's done by being present in the home. She left an inept dunderhead in charge and it was clear he wasn't paying attention.

4. As a former RN, I can't say I blame sexism for the way she acted during her last day of pregnany
She attended a convention in Texas her last month when she knew she had a high risk pregnancy. Her water broke around 0400 am. She stuck around to give her speech that morning. Instead of going to the nearest hospital in Texas, she said she wanted her baby born in Alaska. She risked a horrible infection for herself and her child by taking a plane ride lasting 9 hours after her water had broken. Not to mention that what would have happened if she'd gone into labor at 20,000 ft? If the baby had been breech? Had his cord wrapped around his neck? He was a month early. It was a high risk pregnancy because of his Down's and because of her advanced maternal age. What if while she was in the plane she also gave birth and the child couldn't breath well as preemies sometimes can't and needed a respirator? And once she landed, she bypassed two or three hospitals to go to the one her close gyn friend worked at over an hour away? At best, she was the stupidest excuse for a mother I've ever heard of. She's not someone I'd want anywhere near a kitten, let alone a human baby. At worst, she was criminally negligent.

30. I thought
As an RN, my first thought when I heard this story was that she was hoping something would happen. Then it would be "poor Sarah, she lost her baby".
Sorry to sound callus and mean but that is the way I saw it.

12. She is far from the worst mother in America.
There are mothers who have beaten their children to death. There are mothers who have starved their children. There are mothers who got their children hooked on hard drugs. There are mothers who have sold their children into slavery. Patin has done none of those things. Get real.

17. I know right???
What a waste of time??? The people who gave this award were looking for some attention. They knew by grabbing onto Palin's name they'd get it. Palin has a box full of valid oddities to grab onto for a kick Palin fest. Why grab this one?

1) There are two parents in this case. But, she's a bad mother because she ??? is a female republican hypocrite??? Every political woman, democrat, republican, green, etc...just about every professional woman, religious, atheist, has to wear the banner of bad mom, every time some holier than thou feels like it. I NEVER thought this would be our crowd. If you work outside of the home...if you don't home school...if your child get's pregnant...if your child is gay...if your child sneezes three times in a row...brings home a C on a report card...aw shucks you're a bad mom.

2) Children are in serious danger in their homes EVERY day. But, we decide to get our jollies about Palin's kids? Give me a break. I have a colleague who has told me stories that make me gag about children purposely wetting themselves to keep Mom's live in boyfriend from sleeping with them. The stench is the only thing that can keep them off.

Me personally, I don't think this strange woman is a bad mother. I think she's a lousy politician. I think she shouldn't come any closer to the White House. I think her decision to quit her job was either strange or simply for profit. But, I don't know nearly enough to consider her a bad mother.

--------------------------------
My bad...I forgot myself for a moment. We're just supposed to dog all republicans and cheer lead for all democrats. (I do know not every du-er does that, but geesh...it sure gets to feeling weird around here sometimes.)

Ra Ra Ra...Palin BAD! Boom BA HA...Democrats ROCK! Go Team Go!!! Kick Repug butt...Jump Team Score...Palin Sucks!

:bounce:

I'm learning...but it takes awhile.

21. worst is relative
none of the women in your examples were jawboning about their high and mighty beliefs and how dovetail into how one should raise their children and then turning around and acting without their best interests in mind. They were consistent all along in their disinterest in acting in their children's best interests.

They were who they were and they weren't pretending to be other wise.

palin's problem is that she says that she operates from one mindset, but in reality, she acts from another. AKA: hypocrite.

My friend is a police officer and would be more than willing to show you some of the things he has seen happen to children. One was a mother who sold sex with her 3 kids (all under 10) for drug money.

Sorry, but for anyone with an ounce of common sense, worst is NOT that relative.

Get real?

How about this for real:

Betty Bowers is fictional.
The Award is fictional
The ceremony was fictional

Why don't you get real?... and a sense of humor.

22. This is pretty ugly
If it is a joke, wow!

I've heard jokes which made me feel sorry for Hillary Clinton who made me truly dislike her during the primary a couple of years ago.

This is the first Palin replay that made me say its a bridge too far. I still despised her through the last election without saying her mom-daughter was fair game. Even if her maternal instincts are nonexistant and her professional ambitions have taken far beyond most accomodating standards of a working mom, this is a petty and miserable way to express that disdain. I can't condone the 12 hour delay to the hospital for Trig. If she says its her baby, okay. Even if it is mom-daughter's child, so what.

As for the comment up the thread/strand about Republican v. Democratic office seekers, John Edwards took the cake in a way that is comparable to Newt Gingrich dumping his sick wife and their two impoverished children. There is no way in the world you can tell me Democrats haven't taken their wholesome image to the depths Republicans have sunk. When I think that Elizabeth Edwards can beat cancer without the kind of medical insurance her husband provides (while he skirts behind her back telling his mistress who can't wait for Elizabeth to die 'I will with you when she's dead.') I have to wonder what kind of person becomes this virtuous politician.

I expect Republicans to cheer when they see death and misfortune for Democrats, but its a line I won't cross.

28. Can't believe all the hand-wringing here about this
Palin and the Right rub patriotism and values in our face all the time and treat core Democratic constituencies like gays and minorities like freaks. One little factual satire on the train wreck that is her family life and half the people here go wobbly. Much of the Chaos Party is in love with a truly chaotic figure. It's doing everyone a service to point that out.
