The Senate Sweet 16

During the week that marks the anniversary of Anne Frank's abduction
to a concentration camp; and on the very day that FBI agents invaded the home
of a federal whistle blower trying to keep our government honest; these “sweet 16” of 49
DEMOCRATIC Senators voted with the president to reduce our Constitutional
Freedoms. 28 of the 49 stood fast against tyranny – kudos!!! Here’s the Sweet 16:.

Bayh, IN; Feinstein, CA; Carper, DE

Mikulski, MD; Landrieu, LA]

Casey, PA;Lincoln, AR; Pryor, AR; Conrad, ND; Webb, VA

Salazar, CO; "The Nelsons" FL & NE; McCaskill, MO; Kolbuchar, MN
Anne Frank abduction, August 4, 1944
FBI house invasion of whistle blower, August, 2006

4. The Legion d'honneur
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 11:15 PM by autorank
...leading us to a funeral for the Constitution.

Enlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day.

Honesty is the first chapter of the book of wisdom.

In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.

Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances.

Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.

Thomas Jefferson

Edited on Tue Aug-07-07 01:10 AM by autorank
any thing other than what it says. And then they're the rights not enumerated...those rights that were so obvious they need not be included in the Constitution like: the right to have your vote counted fairly and openly, the right to privacy, etc.

Ths Bush criminals can keep lying but they'll never get the people to swallow their lies.

He only has a **25% approval rating** (twenty five percent). We've voted, he's oudahere!!!

27. This law is possibly not Constitutional
Probable cause cannot be contravened by federal law, it takes a Contstitutional ammendment to do so.

4th ammendment wins hands down, the right for a person to be secure in their presonal belongings etc.

10. I have to say that Webb is the surprise.
I thought he was a stand-up guy until this. He just shat on the graves of everyone who ever died for this country.

The others are not all that surprising. Some are willing partners in hate-mongering and fascism, others are trying to secure their own re-election, while others just don't see what's happening to us, what's happening to the world.

He's from Virginia. Warner is beyond hope, he'll never get it (John, not Mark) but Webb is an intellectual in addition to everything else. We'll see what he does to correct this.

14. The forbidden question
How would the sweet sixteen vote should the other dems swim against the establishment tide in a difficult quest for justice? This is precisely what you are not supposed to wonder about. It is no surprise the media crippled populace getting behind impeachment in some cloudy is makes no headway against the DC establishment that so poorly represents it, products of several different types of stacked deck.

The media that blinds, the WH that hides.

The fraud swollen weak crooks of the GOP. The Feds slapped around Stevens for good measure to remind them that THEY can't expect immunity of the type the WH enjoys and they will take them all down with them. The Dems are always agonizing about the fruitful legislation that needs to get passed despite a rogue presidency and the war abomination(not much different from their Vietnam era counterparts). For the GOP lapdogs and the media lapdogs it is more about simple survival, even beyond career survival.

The Blue Dog, DLC Dems or whatever who respect, admire and deal with the power of the GOP as if it is some legitimate creature in an alternate universe of third way nicety only they understand.

So, despite the public, despite activist pressure and alarming violations of plain law, nothing much has changed. It is not Pelosi's table that counts, though, just maybe they are wrong not to try and defeat and delay is not that certain. No move by the MSM. None by the GOP. LBJ and Nixon could never dream of having that thick dead line slouching steadfast against their nation. And our survivor Dems from the fraud era(still very much growing) are the same damaged goods they were before 2000 and after 2006. And Senator Obama does not see that Bush has committed offenses all that grave but has much clearer convictions about foreign policy.

Caving on filibusters. Allowing the GOP to win theirs. Apologizing for fighting back responses. Making no comment or effective fight against slander by the media and criminal crap from the GOP stooges(in or out of Congress). Pursuing investigations until the warnings and demands peter out at the wall. Thinking a grocery list of piteous palliatives cringing under the lame duck's veto( a sign too of the total castration of the rubber stamp GOP) will sneak this sorry situation to November.

To a November where the second last thing(we hope) the public wants is a victory for the party in its present desert generation makeup.

Have their been any surprises? No. The members who voted against this bill have generally exceeded expectations- although a crisis situation makes such glowing achievements into actual irritations.

I suggest some summer reading for the Dems, especially the Blue Dogs. Get a book or two about those obscure people, so ill remembered no one really was ever told what happened to them, the parties replaced by the Nazis in the 1930's. Forget the mirror where every Dem sees a Jefferson or FDR. Look at the people who foolishly lost touch with the perils of their times, how they fought or didn't fight, how they responded to loss of democracy and law, how the German people hated them for losing the nation to the absurd thugs. And how are our Dems so tragically different? Out of power they decided to forge a bridge to corporate sponsorship and added corruption to their state of blindness. They abandoned the people even more in a time and nation NOT ground down and ripe for despair and fascism.

Are they getting money or a job promised via the usual revolving door??

Or are they now immune from blackmail?

Or worst of all, was it simply so that they can go on their vacations on schedule...

15. Remember how hard some of us worked just this time last year
to get many of these 'representatives' elected? It just makes me ill when I remember how Claire McCaskill motivated so many of us to knock on doors for her and make phone calls and give up what little free time many of us had. Then she goes and votes for this horrid horrid piece of legislation.

I am just so discouraged. I don't like the way the Democratic party is headed. They are unwilling to hold this president accountable and they give him unprecedented powers that clearly violate our constitutional rights.

I am resigning as political chair for our local DFA group. I can't in good conscience support a party that ignores the best interests of the American people. I can't encourage people to vote for Democrats like Claire McCaskill. We poured so much into her campaign. I am just sick to my stomach that she was elected largely due to our DFA efforts. And I have a feeling that unless Gore enters the race, I am going to have to hold my nose when I cast my vote for president in 15 months.

The good news is that our area Congressional reps voted NO on FISA. So in this area, Claire was the only one who screwed up on this bill.

24. This constituent will raise some serious objections.

Virginia was ready for a populist in 2006 and Webb was close enough. I like him but this won't work at all. He's got to correct this quickly. Time to start watching him a bit closer, although he's been excellent so far and taking risks in a positive direction.

We'll see what he says in response to my letter, which was firm but courteous.

23. Barbara Mikulski was one of the most liberal members of the Hous in the 80's
I had some experience with her office at that time. She's been invisible as a Senator but even so, what a surprise this was. Webb is particularly disappointing since he's been good elsewhere. This is an aberration, I hope.

How sad it is that the two Senators from the state of Jefferson, Madison, Mason, Patrick Henry etc., both of whom are educated and itelligent, end up voting for this. Talk about jumping ship, lord!

to face. So promising. Now,so pathetic.

This is not about just good sports or voting them out. This was clock crucial. The vote is way out there for some of these traitors.

I hope it was a useless vote and not something they should have been voting on. They changed the Constitution and we lost our legal standing. Or not? We need to know.

It's not as though its a minor issue and it is particularly galling since this is THE state of Jefferson etc. The individual liberties here are deeply embedded but apparently he hasn't read
the memo. Sad to say...
