Nancy walks into the spitball fight between Jon Stewart and Fox News on the O'Reilly Factor. Bernie Goldberg is reacting to Stewart's 4-20-2010 hilarious comedy skit about Fox News. "It's called satire, and it's only funny when you take a kernal of truth and you take it over the top," says Skinner. But to the larger point. "We have two dominant (and very different) worldviews out there, and those beliefs shape your reality. So when someone challenges your worldview, you say they are out of touch with reality, and they are - yours!" Nancy will be writing more in depth on this at her blog at http://www.nancyskinnerlive.com later today.

1. Where do they find these "liberals" at? They totally missed the point
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 12:27 PM by no limit
the point being that everything Jon Stewert said was 100% accurate. it wasn't a hint of truth, it was the absolute truth.

4. It's not funny to a lot of us, bill!
And... I would like people from foreign countries to watch FOX, MSNBC & CNN for one straight week, from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. - one entire week - and after each week, write up what they've learned from that networks. Continue until all three week worth of networks were watched and summarized and then report their findings.

Of course that will take some time - like a clinical trial study - and you'd have to find some real couch potatoes, but I would really like to know what they would think of these news networks and the people they put on the air spewing what they spew!

Now, of course I KNOW that whatever the results are - if they prove to resemble Jon Stewart and our views of Fox at all, in any remote way, fox and their viewers will react the same exact way. There will be no change and no accountability anyway. They will use a common set of tired talking points to discredit each foreigner's findings.

But... I would just like to see it done anyway!

:applause:

8. It's interesting that Fox sent a nobody like Bernie Goldberg
(who is he, again?) out to take on Jon Stewart. Clearly they didn't want to throw one of their big guns into that particular arena: they apparently haven't forgotten what Stewart did to Tucker Carlson and Jim Cramer.

14. In the first place, Jon Stewart pokes fun at the news media in general. Anyone who has watched
him for any length of time would know that. Fox just happens to be the very worst offender, and yes they do their viewers (and the country in general) a huge disservice because they are completely dishonest 75% of the time. Yes, people do have different world views, but sometimes there are just facts. There is no other "news" network that pushes a narrative the way Fox does, and for O'Reilly to play innocent about it is pretty ridiculous. For Goldberg to have responded to Stewarts comments about Fox only gives him fodder. That's how stupid conservatives are.

17. I've listened to Nancy's radio show... not a great impression.
Difficult to identify or empathize with such a rigid thinker. I'm happy she's employed somewhere, though.

18. Rigid thinker?
Where do you get that from? Nancy isn't rigid -- she's open to listening to the other side and having a dialogue with people who disagree with her -- just as Thom Hartmann does. That makes her far less rigid than, say, someone like Randi Rhodes, who shouts at anyone who disagrees with her and doesn't even give them a chance to talk.

20. The point Ms. Skinner is making is valid
Here is what troubles me. More than once, I have been told that it is important to get all points of view. This is to enable yourself to have an informed opinion. Not only to have an informed opinion, but when called into action, one is able to respond with appropriate comments based on fact. I am in agreement with this strategy on becoming an informed person.

When an opinion is given supposedly based on a number of facts, and I find the facts do not match my knowledge of the subject, I do check those facts. This goes for any politician, pundit, talk show host, even a conversation with a stranger on the street. One thing we probably do agree on is any body can be wrong with their facts, thus giving them uninformed opinion. When a person deliberately does away with certain facts to deliberately misrepresent the situation, or worse, replaces known facts with fiction to change an opinion of another person, this to me calls this person's integrity into question. Of course, people do misrepresent facts with fiction all of the time which makes for a big waste of time and resources for everyone involved.

Here is the conclusion of this rant. When having to check facts for fiction from a public speaker supposedly from the left or the right, todays speakers from the right have a major lack of integrity. Except for may be a quick personal gain which is just as quickly lost, what do these people expect to happen in the long run?
