Just to let you know Sinead is not vilified in Ireland.
She had a hard time after the Pope picture incident but is far
from vilified in fact she is as popular is ever.
Here is her being interviewed on the Late Late Show (which
would be Ireland' premier chat/entertainment show) she got a
very warm reception.

I remember when she did this and how SNL jumped all over themselves trying to distance themselves from her. What she did was bold and took guts. She took a lot of flak and didn't back down once.
