1. What a difference 18 years makes
Some of us knew she was right.

Unfortunately, the church was able to keep it hidden from most.

6. I'm curious
how many Catholics will believe the Vatican's spin of being victims of media distortion.

Most won't.

The only question is whether or not they'll still fall in line, knowing what the Vatican is really all about.

They've done it before.

5. I found a really interesting board discussion of this
here.
One commenter said that although on the broadcast it appeared that she might have been able to silence the crowd by launching into her song, the broadcast mix doesn't convey just how loud the crowd was. He thought there was no way she would have been able to pull off the song she intended to sing.

In retrospect, tearing up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live maybe wasn't the best way to start a discussion about child abuse in the Catholic church -- and if there's anyone out there who came up with a better idea, they can hold that against her. Gotta admit, I got nothing.

11. I actually never saw it until now
I vaguely remember hearing about it, and at the time I really didn't get the point. (I didn't have much opinion one way or another.) But without a doubt it took guts. And the SNL vocal performance is worth hearing.

People overreacted too harshly to this. Freedom of expression and opinion.

12. Dylan. How appropriate. How prophetic.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

15. According to Wiki...
During the booing, Kris Kristofferson told her not to "let the bastards get you down," to which she replied, "I'm not down."

14. I felt like I watched someone's martyrdom
at the hands of an angry male god and his ugly patriarchy of abusers of women and children. I haven't changed my opinion.
