I for one will boycott Mall of America for the hate of Free Speech and love of Criminal karl Rove

Karl Rove visits Minneapolis on April 22nd showing up at both a speech/book signing at the U of M and a later book signing at the Mall of America. Despite all the cops following him around throughout the day, Rove was not arrested or detained.

Under heavy security, war criminal Karl Rove made his way to the Twin Cities area on April 22nd to sell his new book ironically named “Courage and Consequences”. But how courageous are you when you have a large group of private security and tax-payer funded police around you at all times? Rove was obviously afraid to face the consequences of his war crimes during the Bush era. At the University of Minnesota, there were at least 8 uniformed UMPD officers in the room and likely a few undercover or plainclothes security. There was somewhere around 140 people in the room - and not all of them supporters. On a campus with over 50,000 students., this was a small showing for a “big-name” speaker.

While the first part of Rove’s speech went along without much disruption or incident, some who arrived late also reported being not let in at the U of M event as they “closed” the doors officially a few minutes before the event. There were a few key disruptions during the U of M speech including a small group chanting - “Who is a terrorist? Rove is a Terrorist” and were promptly escorted out.

At the book signing immediately following afterwards, one person reported they served him with the arrest complaint with no incident. Another individual was arrested and cited with “obstructing the legal process”. Coleen Rowley, a well-known peace activist and whistleblower, asked if Rove would consider a challenge to a debate and was called a “lunatic”. The author of this article was personally kicked out three times from the U of M event – once for yelling war criminal and twice for trying to get into the book signing line - and finally threatened with arrest if the police “saw her again”.

At the Mall of America, the biggest “win” was that no one showed up to get their book signed. Many times during the hour or so we were there – the cops/security outnumbered the protesters and fans. In fact, some of us those who had books weren’t fans but were using them as props to get in line – sometimes more than once – only to get kicked out or told that he wasn’t signing your book again. It didn’t help when head of Mall of America security was standing next to you most of the time.

The corporate media failed to show how tight the security was for these events. The Mall of America security repeatedly monitored everything that we did and said and had numerous back-up from the Bloomington P.D. and a few K-9 bomb-sniffing dogs. The security gave repeated warnings to stop “giving speeches” and eventually Coleen Rowley was kicked out after a curious onlooker yelled “war criminal” near her. At this same time, Karl Rove appeared very busy signing a pile of books that no one appeared to want to purchase. True, Karl Rove was not arrested in Minneapolis but with the security state on his side, the only people who got arrested would be those who dared to call him out.

4. Some of the coverage.

it appears they did detain one person at the U of M but released them. This reporter came up to us later outside and said that Rove would not answer his questions unless he was a part of a "serious" newspaper. MNDaily.com is a pretty mainstream U of M paper.

this is the local University of Minnesota newspaper

Greeted with everything from resounding applause to scornful chants, Karl Rove, a former senior advisor to George. W. Bush, spoke in front of about 100 people Thursday in Smith hall.

Partnering with Young America’s Foundation and Students for a Conservative Voice, the University of Minnesota College Republicans hosted the event which included a Q&A session and book signing.

Aside from a handful of interruptions, the audience was civil and supportive.

Touching on a variety of topics that included the 2008 election, health care reform and reenergizing the conservative voice on college campuses, Rove spoke to an adoring crowd of University students and supporters before fielding questions from the audience.

While Rove directed a great deal of his criticism toward the Obama administration and recent democratic-led initiatives, he opened his speech by acknowledging the historical significance of the United States electing its first black president.

“It says something good about our country, whether you voted for him or not, and frankly, I didn’t,” Rove said.

5. So was Karl Rove served papers??? To bad the police protected him
Here is a report tweeted back.

he was served with papers but they kept kicking me out at the U of M - and it didn't amount to much more than that - at the mall the head of the security was escorting us around and its hard to do anything with cops on your back. The shirts really did make it obvious but I suppose that was the point for our group

6. Here is what the group had run off for the front of the t-shirts they wore.
they can just made them themselves. I hope others do the same, so no matter where he goes he sees this image.

3. I am so glad that Americans are letting this piece of absolute scum
know what they AND MOST OF US think about him, keep up the good work. Make headlines. I would love to see someone get those cuffs on and loose the keys. Make him stay that way til they get them off. Pictures pictures.

7. no purchases?
glad no one in MN is buying his Turd Blossom Bull Shit..
Wonder how much the mall spent on security and staging for that book signing,
looked to me like in true Rove form, it was a losing venture.

A few more of those and maybe promoters will decide the appearances are not worth the security expenditures and he'll be left to his own devices.

8. I never thought of that.. that is a good point
maybe the cities (St.Paul, and then MOA at Bloomington) used the left over Millions given to the cities for the RNC convention in 2008 incase of lawsuits from the abusive arrests.

11. tax dollars on Rove?!!!
he is 100% private citizen at this point, and if he somehow is afforded public monies for security while peddling his own delusions...
maybe the Tea Party would like to hear about that waste of their dollars?

16. What they need are some defensive linemen to tackle or push the bodyguards out of the way.
Then get some iraq war veterans to tackle him the the ground the handcuff him, while the activists read his miranda rights.
