3. Very down to earth information. Thank you for posting.

Interesting connection between making marijuana illegal and the opportunity for contact with dangerous drugs increasing. That fits right in with my experience. I had no interest in cocaine or heroin but just to get pot I had to deal with black market dealers, so I saw it and was offered it. Some of my friends tried it and some of them paid dearly with the loss of their minds. This was over 30 years ago and despite all the blustering about anti-drug programs from republicans, the situation on the street appears to be worse.

We have *a lot* to gain by taking drugs off the black market, but I have this terrible suspicion that some very powerful and influential people are making their money there and they don't want the laws to change. The illegality of drugs feeds black market sales as well as the justice and prison systems. Three very big cash cows for a lot of people.

It keeps coming back to this one theme - we know the right answers; we know what to do. But the right ideas aren't being implemented and the corrupt continue to make a hell of a lot of money with the system as it is.

4. Prohibition is where our trouble lies.

Too many people and institutions make huge profits by keeping pot illegal. The police, privately owned "probation departments", the courts,DEA, the prisons....all of this for a weed that is not addictive and a helluva lot safer than alcohol. Yes, look at the empirical data, we no longer have the easy availability for kids to alcohol, that we had during prohibition. It's the same with pot, just like the neo-cons say about their guns...outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns...Our "free enterprise", whether it's the black market or the "legal" market, is meant to drain the the already impoverished. If anyone believes that banksters don't finance illegal drugs so they can make huge profits, just look at the "derivatives" market. They will do whatever it takes to profit obscenely. That is all our nation is about now. If pot was sold legally and regulated, then the availability to children would practically diminish. Do you see any "pushers" on the street corner selling alcohol? Well, in some of the "dry counties" of Kentucky maybe....
