Summary: Cenk discusses the growing disaster related to the recent oil spill, and relays a message from an oil industry insider about offshore drilling.

PS---The Guardian wrote an awesome article about TYT that includes which Senator refuses to be interviewed by Cenk again and more!

2. But but but ..we heard so many dems here telling we Gulf coast people to basically STFU when Obama
Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 07:23 PM by flyarm
approved oil drilling in our coastal waterways..yep..we had our posts un'rec;ed and were slammed by dems here because of our worries and our facts about how dangerous it was..in fact Here is one posted reply to me when I posted what the Sierra Club was saying here in Fla, when Obama went against what every dem in my state fought so hard to stop the drilling and putting up platform rigs on our coastline and his campaign promises to voters in my state of Florida!.........

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

from one of the blind obediant posters here replying to my post on how dangerous these rigs were........I won't name the poster..but i was given a heavy dose of this shit when i was posting how dangerous these damn rigs and drilling is to our eco system! This is one of many such dem posts to those of us who objected to Obama opening up drilling..you to can find these posts in the archives easily...

It's embarrassing how some environmental groups are so goddamn knee-jerky. Maybe they need more money... as one who gives to the Sierra Club on occasion and actually worked for Greenpeace for a stint, I know how it works.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

and this is what Obama said when he was betraying his promise to we dems in Fla over drilling!

Obama: “Oil Rigs Today Generally Don’t Cause Spills”

Obama Repeats Katrina Oil Spill Myth To Defend Offshore Drilling

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm8gLmuTvJ4&feature=player_embedded

By: David Dayen Thursday April 29, 2010 1:42 pm

snip:

What a difference 18 days makes. Here was Barack Obama, on April 2, before the BP oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, claiming that oil rigs are safe to justify his position on offshore drilling:

I don’t agree with the notion that we shouldn’t do anything. It turns out, by the way, that oil rigs today generally don’t cause spills. They are technologically very advanced. Even during Katrina, the spills didn’t come from the oil rigs, they came from the refineries onshore.

Not only does this quote look ridiculous in hindsight, it wasn’t true at the time, as Brad Johnson points out:

Obama’s claim that oil rigs did not cause any spills during Hurricane Katrina is simply false, as the Wonk Room reported in June, 2008, when Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and other conservatives made the same false claim:

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita Caused 124 Offshore Spills For A Total Of 743,700 Gallons. 554,400 gallons were crude oil and condensate from platforms, rigs and pipelines, and 189,000 gallons were refined products from platforms and rigs.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita Caused Six Offshore Spills Of 42,000 Gallons Or Greater. The largest of these was 152,250 gallons, well over the 100,000 gallon threshhold considered a “major spill.”

Obama showed his ass on this. It was obvious when he said it and obvious in light of the devastating REALITY that STILL likely doesn't reach the spellbound bots.

8. and you have no idea how bad this is going to get..here where I am in Fla May is when the turtles
Edited on Sat May-01-10 08:45 AM by flyarm
come into land and lay their eggs..many of us dems have fought for years to make hotels and restaurants on the beaches and condo's to turn their beach lights off from May to Nov..so the turtles do not get confused when they come in to lay and nest their eggs..so they can always find the horrizon and go back out to sea..

thousands of these turtles are going to die..and some years back they were almost extinct..

we have very fragile Manatees..that were almost extinct..that have rebounded ..they lay on the bottom of the water..where this oil will migrate and settle..throughout the Gulf..

We have had dead birds for the past week on our beaches inn CLEARWATER Fla..
Our air stunk for 4 days earlier in week...all the way down to Ft Meyers from the Clearwater area down......

Last night on our local Tampa news a fisherman was on our news saying the Grouper was going to be severly effected because it swims 600 ft down ..and the oil was going to migrate to the bottom first and contaminate and kill the grouper...a huge staple of food source here in Fla.

I am beyond angry..I am sick to my stomach..to think our pristine beaches and our CLEAR Water is going to be fucked for decades..for the greed of few..and people I thought were democrats ( or so they said until Obama took the stage) and thought gave a rats fucking ass about this are nothing but paid shills and frauds..because anyone who would have gone along with Obama opening up drilling as he did and the excuses and the blind obedience of dems here and elsewhere, are not any kind of democrat i recognise ..after a lifetime as a democrat and working for democratic causes and principles..and values that in the long run..mean very little to most people..because they can be bought off so cheaply..at the cost to our environment and the air we breath and the marine life we need and the waters that we borrow from our earth..I now realize ..most people are nothing but frauds! Fucking frauds!

I feel so sorry for our children and our children's children..what we took for granted will now be gone forever..or for entire lifetimes..History will not look kindly to this period of our history of the damage we did to this earth..and our eco systems..and the blind followers who gave so little care to what we just borrow from this earth..and we have now destroyed in so many ways...The shame will lie in the greed of the USA..no other country on earth is as greedy and wasteful and damn arrogant about power and money at the cost of marine life and the air we breath..

But warning to the Blind Obediant, you better stay far far away from me..because I will wear your asses out ..and I will expose you every way I can, to who and what you are..and who you are on the payroll of ..I will post your former posts and I will expose you for the frauds you are! I will make that my job..becuase it is people like that, that are destroying my earth for pennies to the dollar of greed!

9. The people own the natural resources
not the oil companies. Capitalism doesn't recognize that. Capitalism is for the greedy few to reap huge profits at the peril of the majority. America has already failed the comparisons of equality from the the top 20 "civilized" nations. We can not keep the same policies and expect a different result. We need to look at what works for the populations in other countries and steer our course in that direction. Screw the obvious feudalism that has taken over our country.

11. As a West Coaster, I remember the oil spills
in the waters off Santa Barbara and Carpenteria.

It was one of many here in CA.

The destruction to the ecosystem and marine wildlife
continues for weeks after the spill is "contained".

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6400E520100501

Ziccardi is director of the Oiled Wildlife Care Network in California,
a hub for the world's leading experts in capturing and caring for oil-soaked sea life.

He knows from responding to more than 60 oil spills in California that the full scope of
harm to birds and other wildlife only becomes apparent once the oil washes ashore.

We need to focus on solar and wind energy sources.

12. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (that is,USA). . .
. . .the

timing

of this oil rig disaster right after Obama's public embrace of off-shore drilling is too close for the suspension of my suspicion.

And add the FACT that the Halliburton involvement on this rig is undoubtedly controlled by ruthless Master Cheney himself. . .

to me, this is eco-terrorism setting a political vendetta precedence on a monumental evil scale.

Obama's chess move to deflate off-shore drilling as a Republican attack for next elections really angered the Master, didn't it?

So, what does he come up with from his maniacal bag of tricks? Create an oil spill crisis, specifically from Gulf off-shore areas Obama was to approve. . .yeah, add another crisis to the pile Obama already has. . .but Cheney will do whatever to terminate the Obama administration.

And, before you dismiss me with your "conspiracy label," if these rigs are so risky, how is it that there have been no spills for the preceding 8-year Cheney reign?

The odds are astoundingly contrived.

Go ahead now. . .start the insults. . .quite frankly, I don't give a damn. .

I'm thoroughly DESPONDENT over the criminality of our political scene today.

Mother earth and we are in BIG TROUBLE . . .

13. No this was just a huge accident
No way Cheneny would want to intentionally discredit off shore drilling through a back op to sabotage a major rig.

9/11? Sure. But not an intentional oil spill. That makes no sense unless he gets to blame it on the fictitious "Al Qaeda"

18. It's never an accident
Edited on Sat May-01-10 01:46 PM by TatonkaJames
How many times do we see this ? An anti-gay politician caught DUI driving from a gay club he was at, civilians killed in war, the accident covered up, they say nothing wrong was done until the investigation shows different. it the same ploy used time and again, I didn't do it until you end up proving I did then I look like an arse to the country, like John Edwards.
This oil spill was brewing before we heard of it. They only finished pouring cement 20 hours prior to the spill. This was to avoid what was already about to happen but they caught it too late. They "cut corners" by not putting in place the same preventives they did in European wells. This is the American way since they deregulated most everything in this country and this is what you get when greed and profit override logic. Watch it play out in the news, a month from now the headlines will read, "Well was leaking while Halliburton tried to plug it."
We need to get off the oil spigot. If we had started in the 70's when we witnessed the oil embargo we should have said never again. Now we find ourselves floundering while other countries are taking the lead and will pass us and we'll end up buying trains and other forms of clean energy from them instead of making it right here at home putting Americans back to work. This will take the leadership of another FDR to put the wheels of progress in motion. In my lifetime it is possible to do this only those who own this country, those who call others unpatriotic, will continue business as usual to make as much profit from old technology and we will pay for it year after year. Just like banking reform. We know what happened, we know who did what, we just hold hearings to give the pubic the illusion something is being done to help us. Well, it's all bullshit as it has been for the past 40 years that I've been aware of it. If I'm wrong, then why aren't we the front-runners in clean energy and transportation where China is at this crucial time ?
The politicians all have a piece of the action, another reason they are phonies with the exception of one or two who are made to look GONZO.
We read about the Fall of the Roman Empire, we're watching the Fall of the America, when are we going to wake up and start fighting back like they are today in Greece where they are out in the streets clashing with police because their money was stolen from them like the pensions and savings Americans lost from failed institutions ? We are a sorry lot of lazy people who have grown content with our lives even though we complain daily.
We only have ourselves to blame, after all, it's we who go to the voting booths and vote the same garbage in. Start thinking outside the box, stop thinking Democrats and Republicans are the only answer. Have they worked out in the past 20 years ? Well, then get off your arse and start making noise, write letters every day if that's what it takes, make calls to your reps. Get out in the streets !
Lazy frigging Americans, why do I bother.

Edited on Sat May-01-10 02:41 PM by WileEcoyote
Of course the spill was caused by neglect and corruption, but it wasn't something INTENTIONAL as Lena RI mentions. Thus I describe it as an "accident".

While I don't put is past an arm of the Luminatti to pull off any pranks this one doesn't seem to help them.

20. It's time to Nationalize
ALL of BP's assets in the gulf of Mexico.
They caused the accident through neglect and corruption,
now they can pay for all the damage with all the oil from
their other drilling platforms.

Then, whenever another corporate oil rig blows and pollutes our
coast lines, BAM....they get nationalized also.
