4. Why must President Obama talk in a crisis in such a passionless, perfunctory tone? |
|
When Dukakis was asked how he would feel if his wife were attacked and would he want capital punishment for the perp, he responded in a passionless way and it helped cost him the election.
Why doesn't Obama look as if he is moved by this crisis? Does he have any other mode other than, this-is-all-routine, I'm-getting-the-job-done?
Same with his response on the NY bomb. He almost looks bored.
If Obama plays this crisis wrong it will become his personal Katrina and the Democrats will be screwed in the Fall.

There's a lot of valid criticism of Obama over this crisis but not being a big enough drama queen in his "tone", I'm calling BS on that.

7. Could you explain further... |

What "a lot of criticism" means?
We can blame Obama for opening up certain areas for "future" drilling...But that has nothing to do with this spill.
We can and should blame the government for allowing BP and all other oil companies to do off shore drilling without being 110% sure they could contain a spill like this...But these contracts were done under Cheney's secret meetings with oil CEO's and a GOP controlled congress...However, both parties and the American people are guilty of smoking the crack pipe of BIG OIL!
However, Obama has done all he can up to this point with what he has to operate with...Even if Obama called out the entire military, coast guard, EPA, FEMA and any other Government Agency one could think of along with hiring every fisherman in the gulf region to spread booms as soon as the morning of the explosion before anyone but BP knew the leak would be this bad we would be in the exact same position we find ourselves in today! WAITING ON BP TO DO WHAT THEY SAID THEY COULD DO WHEN AWARDED THIS CONTRACT! The Federal Government is prepared for natural disasters and the military is prepared to fight wars but they are not in the business of drilling oil wells or capping oil wells a mile under the ocean!
I for one am proud to have a President who is calm and steady in the face of such a crisis! And I know you share this feeling as well...
So, what exactly would you criticize Obama "a lot" for in regards to this spill?

5. But they will only pay a small fraction of the damages |
|
I think this talking point needs to be killed right now, as much as we would like to believe that BP is going to pay the entire cost of the cleanup they will not. We will be lucky if they pay even 5% of the total cost of cleanup, and even then there will still be crude oil on the beaches. The fact is that a disaster of this magnitude is going to cost far more than even a huge multinational corporation like BP could ever afford to pay, even if they spent every last penny they have it would not even come close to covering the expenses of this cleanup and you can guarantee that the politicians who have been taking oil industry money are not going to do everything they can to ensure they get a bailout. Right now they are telling us that BP will pay the whole thing to make us complacent, then when the story is off the front pages they will quietly announce that we are being stuck with the bill. Make no mistake about it, the American people are once again going to be screwed and we can not allow them to try to help the big oil PR effort by trying to fool us into believing otherwise.

8. ...(and then, BP will pass the bill to their customers)... |
|
(and all their co-cartel corporations will be more than happy to raise their retail prices as well)
(that is, if life can still live on this corporate-stupid greedy species planet of ours)

10. Sorry that's the argument the right has against taxing corporations more heavily |
|
the argument that they will raise prices to the consumer.

11. If a higher price were advantageous to the "co-cartel" they would raise the price today ... |
|
... they are already free to set the price where they wish. They don't need a fine as an excuse.
