14. +1000! I so agree!
Not only do we need more truthtellers on these shows, to counter the RW apologists that appear, but we need more people who will speak out, tell it like it is, and not many do that like Bill Maher! :woohoo:

Welcome to DU, sexxybeast! It's great to have you with us! :toast:

3. Geez Louise, for the very first time, the great George Will
was summarily put in his place by a guy who is simply smarter than he is.

Will was steaming as time went on. Every comment, designed to silence the panel in deep awe of his "brilliance" as is typically the case on this show, withered and died.

Take the guy on with brains, and he deflates like an old helium-filled balloon.

Bravo Maher.

9. that's what happens when your POV is based on lies or twisted info
Edited on Mon May-03-10 12:09 PM by fascisthunter
he is smart, just intellectually dishonest. Try making an insane lie a truth... it's what GOP talking heads have been doing all along, but never with a group of opposing view points to call him out on it.

10. He has a nice vocabulary, but ain't too bright. Maybe when it comes............
..........to baseball trivia, but that's about all. He's the one all the "conservatives" always point to as one of the "conservative intellectuals". Him and Newt Gingrich, go figure.

7. Completely inappropriate editing
If you look at the changes in the captions or if you compare it to the similar clip at Crooks and Liars, you'll see how the clips are juxtaposed, not edited in a sequential order.

12. On the whole clips are in sequential order...
Edited on Mon May-03-10 02:31 PM by JohnnyK
I juxtaposed two clips so vanden Heuvel and Al Sharpton could respond directly to a couple points Will made during one of his incoherent, rambling statements. I also threw in a couple reaction shots by Will when Maher made his bogus Brazil claim than George challenged him on. I also used reaction shots to cover up edits. Politifact nailed Maher with a "False" meter reading on the "Brazil got off oil 30 years ago" claim. I don't believe any of the changes were "inappropriate" because I didn't think I took anybody out of context or changed what they said.

8. Anyone understand the Brazil comment?
Any idea of what he was trying to say about Brazil being off oil, or is he just misinformed on this issue?

11. brazil grows sugar cane to make ethanol for their cars.
Edited on Mon May-03-10 12:50 PM by ellenfl
i don't know the numbers but i believe their oil consumption is way down. interestingly, the cars they are running almost exclusively on sugar cane based fuel are american made cars. apparently, american companies have been making and selling ethanol burning cars in brazil for some years but not making any for the american market. perhaps that's why they have been able to build hybrids so quickly . . . they already had the technology.

16. Brasil imports no oil, they are energy independent as of a few years ago
Sugar cane grows abundantly in Brasil, and they distill it to make fuel for automobiles. They also have plenty of oil wells; I think they export oil because they use less than they extract. The cars that run on distilled cane also have a small fuel tank for gasoline, because they need it to start up. Once they are warmed up they switch over to the cane fuel. Brasil made the decision to become energy independent some time ago, and achieved that goal recently.

15. I've never NEVER seen George Will that consistantly try to thwart anyone else on that show
and Maher did by only looking at him from time to time which undercuts Will's position (first to the right of the host as always) of leadin the discussion...and Maher did it from the worst seat-the dead middle.

another pompous, sickening right wing gasbag that I just can't stand to listen to for more than a few seconds.

18. George Will is such a tool and he's got it all wrong.
Conservatives are mammals who have learned to survive and pass themselves off as human, all the while functioning with little more than a brain stem.

- Now that's the correct definition of a conservative, like this guy =====>

19. George Will is a colossal douche bag.
He didn't even try to debate anyone just questioned everything Maher and Sharpton said.

20. During one of the...
...back and forths between Will and Sharpton - Al challenged Will's 'answering a question with a question...and proceeded to ask him - Will - another one only to be interrupted by Tapper with one of his own to Al. Sharpton protested that he had already asked Will his question and was expecting a reply, to which Tapper replied, 'Well it's my show and I'll decide'...I so wanted Sharpton to say - 'Not for long, Jake'...and by the way is Christiane going to give George a permanent place on this show like the rest of you guys? Cause if she does George better watch out cause the lady's gonna make you look like the jerk that we all know you to be.'...Yeah, that's what I'd like to have heard.

22. Don't judge Will based on this clip...
While I tried to get many of George's main points across, there may have been selective editing going on. I had to whittle down a 30 minute clip (including the web-only Green Room) to under 10 minutes while trying to get all the best responses from Maher up front and then providing context for his last (and best) line at the end, "I'll pass". So don't judge Will based on this edit of him. I tried to show the fiery side of the debate and left 20 minutes on the cutting room floor. He's still a db, though.

26. I was just responding to your...
... judgment that George Will "didn't even try to debate anyone" and that he "just questioned everything Maher and Sharpton said" - I was just stating that your judgment was based on selective editing.
