The civil rights attorney interviewed states that Allen's defense is "unbelievable" and "entirely racist". And the CNN news bunny states that "the police are not buying it either".

So, no.

8. I see two different angles on this...

There are two things that come to mind, well three.

First, he was probably marching in step with other
republicans regarding civil rights, etc, so probably
being exposed as being hypocritical, which is sad, cause
then that makes him another case of fraudulent politics.

Then the obvious racist stink of his defense; it's really quite ugly.

But then there is another point, and that's the entrapment of
people by the police, not in a sting operation on a powerful
official suspected of corruption, not in a drug ring associated
with violence, but of men desperate for sex.

While one could certainly have a reasoned debate about the issue,
what occurs to me immediately is that there are better and more
important issues to be pursued by the police, then horny or desperate
gay men cruising for sex.

That may be controversial but it seems ridiculous that there are police
officers posing as gays whose job it is to lure men into sex or having
a conversation about sex, and then to arrest them.
It is just as weird to think of female officers posing as hookers,
or just women and trying to lure men into talking about sex or doing
something sexual in a place like that, and then arresting them.

Well, I guess it would be worse, since there are lots more rapes of women
so it would be a shadier transaction were it a straight one.

So, even though there was the possibility of a 20$ bill, it doesn't
seem that much of a crime. Maybe the one getting the blow job should've
offered to pay!
It seems like more of a major embarrassment than anything else.

10. some things to consider

The police had observed him going in and out of this restroom a few times, which struck them as suspicious. They weren't out to entrap him, they were investigating suspicious behavior. Who knows, maybe they thought he was a drug dealer. Then, Allen approached the undercover cop, who was in a stall, not the other way around.

The strange thing about his "I was so afraid of the scary black people" comment is that what the hell was he doing hanging around in a public park where there were (gasp) black people actually walking around if he's so afraid of them? (Why didn't he just stay home in his closet where he could be safe?)

Yeah, not much of a crime, until you consider that this was a guy trying to pass legislation against public sex (per TDS last night.) The irony is delightful.

I thought when I posted the news story, he'd just resign at the request of the FL Repub party - I'll admit I was wrong - he blamed the big scary negros in the park for intimidating him, and in not wanting to be a statistic to these beasts, he offered to give a blow and $20 to one of them to protect his future!

Is the problem "closeted gay," "closeted," or "gay"? Isn't it possible that Allen is just a sweaty, fat, hypocritical, racist white dude who likes to suck dick on occasion? (Black, in this case...)

Ted Haggard is from the Midwest (born in Indiana, according to an online bio). Perhaps he and Allen should hook up.

13. Actually, Allen comes across more as the "bear" while Haggert the "International Male" type, but

both are clearly big old bottoms, so it wouldn't work out at all.

Though were Haggert to introduce him to his meth dealer, he might lose a few stray pounds . . .

16. well, some of my gay friends like to call people like Allen something altogether different

it's an insulting word for gay people, and they use it for the ashamed of themselves types who harbor disgust for gay people when they are actually gay or bi inside. There's just loads of closeted gays in the Gay Old Party, but you'd never know it, they don't have one out member in Congress or the White House that I know of, and there are surely several of them out there. Sad... just sad... Allen's just a big ol' nasty c-whore unless he comes out. The kid that his wife has isn't his - so as far as I know according to the news reports, he's fatherless and is using her as a beard for all intensive purposes. Whatever his situation is - as none of us totally know - he's a mess and appears so unhappy in every pic I see of him before & after the fact.

15. Just Two Things

1. If he is offering police officers blowjobs, no wonder he was voted "Representative of the Year" by the Florida police.

2. Is this guy kidding. Look at his size, he scared of someone. I myself am a big guy like Mr. Allen, and I am not scared of anyone (unless they are carrying a weapon). I have always been a big guy and I learned early on that people will not mess with me because they think I might be able to hurt them (the only exception being the odd little guy who thinks he has something to prove by trying to fight someone bigger then him, and the truth being that I am pacifist and would only fight someone if provoke into it, and was swung upon first). So saying all of that, I come away with two impressions,
a. he is a big ole racist, just another southern white male blaming his problems on the big bad black man.
b. if he is not a closeted gay man is at least a closeted bisexual who was caught trying to steal from the cookie jar.
