1. That's right - hold his feet to the fire. Obama can't be trusted when it comes to... |
|
...selling out our environment to oil, coal and other dirty industries.

all of the green jobs we were going to create? Obama said we would be the worlds leading producer and innovator of green technology. Funny (not) how that oil money changes the minds of these greedy bastards. Yep. President Obama, I worked to get your lying ass elected and I said you are a greedy bastard.

Unless you support more offshore drilling it does not make sense to be upset with fdl on this.

9. I usually go after TYT with the 2X4 when they are unfair to Obama |
|
but in this case Cenk is 100% correct. There is NOTHING. I repeat NOTHING to justify offshore drilling. In my opinion this is 1 of those red lines no democrat should cross including Barack Obama. The other one is predator drones killing civilians. Another one is illegal detention policies in Gittmo and possible torture in offshore secret prisons. If Barack Obama doesn't move on these by 2012 he doesn't have my vote.

Do not joke about Predator Drones taking out a Jonas brother at the Presidential Correspondents Dinner. That quip reminded me of Bush looking for WMD's in the oval office in a film from a previous correspondents dinner.
Drones take out civilians. It is not humorous for the President to joke about America collaterally damaging innocent civilians to death.

16. They are right and as usual your knee jerk reaction is to protect entrenched power. |
|
No surprise there.
None whatsoever.
This spill could have been laid right at the feet of the Republicans but Obama decided to embrace it so now he owns it. And FDL used Obama's own words to do so. That's why Democrats should NOT take Republican positions especially when those positions are so utterly and obviously wrong.

22. Given a choice between a real Republican and a Dem |
|
that acts like a Repug, people will choose the real thing. Obama is losing his base and losing Independents because he is not honoring his campaign pledges and is instead pretending to be a Repug lite, which no one likes.
Get a clue, Obama. Off-shore drilling is a losing, dangerous proposition, and one you absolutely need to drop yesterday.

11. My understanding is that NOT using the science was the problem. |
|
They were not forced to use proper safeguards so they didn't so they could make more money. The environment was impacted, lives were lost and livlihoods are in jeopardy. These oil companies make obscene profits and use legal loopholes to avoid paying taxes to the U.S. government but pay taxes to other governments. Symbolically, the money and effort that is going toward the clean-up could have been put toward future technology and energy development.
FUCK THE DRILLING.
Go green.

17. Sloppy science isn't science. And even if the science was sound and they didn't use it... |
|
...Off shore drilling will not produce enough oil to make a difference.... even if it went to us and not on the world market.
It's a "feel good" policy that makes more money for the oil companies...period. It doesn't matter who proposes it.

12. And yet people still come out to defend Obama. |
|
I don't know how anyone could be so delusional as to think that any politician, supposedly on our side or not, is going to change anything if we don't ask them to, especially in this corporate-run political climate. It's called petitioning your government, we have to do it. And we don't have to be polite about it.

I am not from America so i do not really have a say here although.. looking at this from Obamas point of view.. and i probably sound like a conservative here im sure. but if you consider the economic situation, as i am sure he did, he would have thought that giving the republicans their drill baby drill wet dream, was a double edged sword for helping the recovery.
every litre (yep get with it) that obama sources locally is less money drained out to foreign country's.
but yes.. this is a disaster for obama. so vote for palin because shes a drilling expert!. yep im sure she would have made sure their was a close-off valve!

The smidgen of oil that would come from off shore drilling will go on the world market and not go directly to America. After all BP.... even BP America, is not owned by Americans. Y'know.... BRITISH Petroleum...
I don't think there's even a guarantee that Americans will work on the assemblage and operation of the rigs.

oil is fungible. We have a reserve for emergencies but day to day oil is purchased from Canada, Mexico and Saudi Arabia no matter how much we drill. There is no storage vat somewhere that's marked "For US only." More drilling will not reduce dependency on oil imports. Who do we think destroyed the electric car? Oil companies alright.

A psycho or a right wing dip shit.
Not worth it. Never was. Never will be. Absolutely a kick in the nuts to sanity and self for any Liberal to promote off shore drilling. STUPID!

23. Even some Repugs are against offshore drilling |
|
My good friend is so dear, but was born and raised in GA and is a Repug. Even she knows that offshore drilling is wrong and stupid and only benefits the oil companies, not Americans. If she knows that, why the hell doesn't our president - or it is that he just doesn't care? I think he's really smart, so it must be that later, which is truly sad.

getting away from dependence on foreign oil. Of course it isn't. The oil still goes to the highest bidder.
