Maine Republicans Adopt Tea Party Platform

An overwhelming majority of delegates to the Maine Republican convention tonight voted to scrap the the proposed party platform and replace it with a document created by a group of Tea Party activists.

The official platform for the Republican Party of Maine is now a mix of right-wing fringe policies, libertarian buzzwords and outright conspiracy theories.

The document calls for the elimination of the Department of Education and the Federal Reserve, demands an investigation of "collusion between government and industry in the global warming myth," suggests the adoption of "Austrian Economics," declares that "'Freedom of Religion' does not mean 'freedom from religion'" (which I guess makes atheism illegal), insists that "healthcare is not a right," calls for the abrogation of the "UN Treaty on Rights of the Child" and the "Law Of The Sea Treaty" and declares that we must resist "efforts to create a one world government."

1. Lots of old people.
GOP gatherings seem to have a vast majority of elderly constituents. Nothing like voting against your own best interests.

The Grim Reaper will deal with this soon enough.

This has got to worry GOP strategists.

5. Does this mean Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe have to endorse the platform to remain Republicans?
Hard to see how Collins or Snowe could go along with this.

6. more idiots standing on their own oxygen lines, screaming 'I can't breathe!'

the tighter the circle their wagons, the fewer inside the ring. before you know it, you'll see Liz Cheney, alone in a shoebox, with a sign: 'I am the Republican Party'

more power to 'em

9. I'm actually glad to see this...
It further divides the GOP and pretty much makes it a goose dangling in the window.

They can kiss the moderate GOP goodbye...teabaggers do not have the #'s to carry an election. It appears they do, because the rally at stuff like this, but the tens, to a couple of hundred that actually show up and believe this crap...will splinter the GOP and ensure it's demise...I will not weep for the GOP when they suffer monumental losses at the polls...(provided that the D's show up and vote...:D )

12. Probably...
but it does not mean a GOP victory by any means...the more the teabaggers move to the right...the more GOP'ers they will lose. They are a blip on in the larger picture of politics. They are getting far too much attention for what they are really capable of.

17. Remind Them
Christ was a liberal, borderline socialist. He never denied anyone health care, and never stopped one herbal-induced miscarriage (abortions in His day), while he cared about those already born. They can stick the pagan-hyjacked ruse they consider their faith. If Christ were alive today they'd try to silence Him with duct-tape and probably call Him a terrorist.

18. K&R
I think we'll see this kind of thing over and over again. In state after state the Teabaggers will be dividing their party and forcing out anyone who doesn't kowtow to their lunacy. And when election day arrives and their party loses -- then the realization of what they've done to themselves will finally hit them.

- Maybe.....

I dunno....

If but one single teabagger candidate wins, we'll hear about it and nothing else for the next decade! Even if every other set was won by an Alan Grayson clone.
