1. That was pretty dark.

I don't think it is the tea party that is unraveling things. I think global financiers and wall street villians have finally been able to get the upper hand over the serfs.

12. I agree with you 100% on that. Malloy was doing fine until he
suddenly went political, then his message began to fade.

2. We have succeeded in making ourselves an endangered species on this planet.
Edited on Wed May-12-10 08:28 PM by BrklynLiberal
If I were one of the other species, I would be rooting for the extinction of humans before they annihilate the entire planet.

13. Me 2. Also, I would not be surprised if some of the humans are
also routing for it. Life for many is unbearable and they would welcome an honorable death.

3. Thank you Hernan. If it has escaped me thus far...
Welcome to DU.

I've said several times over the last year that this set of circumstances is Grover Norquist's dream come true. It sucks to be here, I'm sure you're glad you're not.

Keep it lit.

7. My belief that America is doomed has really mushroomed over the last decade
The irony is that it's been an inside job. The people responsible are the very ones who will fall the farthest when it all breaks down, but their unbridled greed has blinded them to that reality. They are completely insulated from the hardships their parasitic pursuit of wealth to the exclusion of all else causes the rest of us, and they believe they will always be.

Sadly America will not go down without taking the rest of the world with us. When the shit hits the fan it will create a power vacuum the likes of which has not been seen since the fall of Rome. And that's the rosey scenario.

9. Feudalism 2.0 is here. The spending cut on "social services"
has been sold to Americans at a time when these services are needed most. They don't even consider looking to the past for answers. That too, is off the table. In 1970, income taxes for the wealthiest people And corporations was 75%. Hell in 1950 it was 90%. Today, it is 35% with no payroll taxes after $500,000. Most corporations are tax exempt. No wonder, America has the largest wealth distribution gap in the "civilized world."We have bankrolled and "let loose" the banksters and their "hedgefunds" on the world economy. Those same, US bankrolled hedgefunds admit (it is legal now) their intent to bankrupt the world, for profit, including America. Ironically, their dividend income is tax-free also. Thom Hartman reported yesterday, a quote from a hedgefund, self-named; "the wolfpack."
They are currently "attacking the Greek economy" (very profitable, last month they paid themselves an amount equal to the entire Greek debt). They bragged that Europe was next.
I think the "ruling class" do not want Americans to see how a real, functioning social system works. Universal healthcare, good pay, excellent paid benefits, respect...
They concluded that their plan was to "be in california soon." The "ruling class" has removed all regulations for these thieves, to help them immensely (the r.c. is a part of this beast) profit while they destroy the economies of the world.
All brought to you by the good ol' USA. IF the 80% of us, who own 3% of the wealth, would ORGANIZE and non-violently demonstrate, just a million of us (out of hundreds of millions in our category), across America (soon) on a given day, we may stop this. Our numbers are so large compared to theirs; if we can take-over before it is too late. That time is rapidly approaching. Talk to a friend (or opponent, they are in the same economic boat) and lets organize and protest, just like the Greek citizens. Our numbers are so huge that we can demand and get change. Watch this:

please hurry, I have no idea how to organize this (so help!), but I know we have to act fast.

10. thanks again Hernan
Yes this country is dying a slow death because of the fringe groups who like Mike says want to dictate to the rest of us what we can and can't do. You should post his video on the tea party platform. I just watched it. All I can do is shake my head.

11. The US has been in their sights ever since we declared our independence from England.
Then there was the French Revolution.

WWI really accelerated the demise of the Old Order, but the survivors want their fiefdoms and serfs back.

14. Nope, the "old order" was replaced by capitalism...
Edited on Thu May-13-10 02:36 PM by liberation
... and that was eons ago.

A lot of people miss the context under which capitalism came to exist. Which is sad in a way, since it is our socioeconomic system yet most people know very little about it. And what they do, it is usually assumptions whose main intent is to help people reach acceptance and cope with a socio economic system which was imposed on them with no choice.

Capitalism is the system that those who wanted to replace the old feudal order came up with in order to replace the old pyramidal power structure with a similar one, in which the power held by kings, lords and priests was transferred onto capitalists. It is no coincidence that both systems look fairly similar, a modern corporation for example is organized and behaves in a similar manner as an old feudal castle/county did. And
Both systems use "invisible" entities to justify their existence and operation: feudalism used and invisible god up in the skies to justify its power, and capitalism uses an "invisible hand" controlling the markets as its reason for its existence. The church helped in fomenting the pyramidal power structure associate with feudalism, and in a very similar way religion also helps with maintaining the status quo in our current system.

Both are based on fairly obvious rip offs. And both use the old "divide and conquer" approach to social control, which has been in effet for eons.

For those who like to believe the "old order" is trying to make a come back from Europe to the USA. They are missing the point. Our modern American society resembles the structure of an old feudal European kingdom. It is just that the titles have changed. We have a similar idle super rich class, sans "hereditary official titles," as the Europeans have with their idle monarchical class. A modern working class is no less subject to servitude to the moneyed class, as an old serf in Europe was subjugated to their local lord/king. It is just that we have gadgets now... which a lot of people seem to think it is synonym for modernity, and thus renders us as being in a more "powerful" position than our ancestors. Nothing of the sort..

Frankly, I don't believe on "invisible things" being a scientist I need to be shown actual physical evidence for me to take anything at face value. Which ironically, it is also a reason why moder economists... behave and operate in a similar pseudo-scientific fashion as old time alchemist did.
