In an interview with Real News Network senior editor Paul Jay, Steiber said he was alarmed in basic training when the chants "even joked about killing women and children."

STIEBER: One that stands out in my mind is—it goes, "I went down to the market where all the women shop/I pulled out my machete and I begin to chop/I went down to the park where all the children play/I pulled out my machine gun and I begin to spray."

JAY: That's as you're marching.

STIEBER: Right.

JAY: So this is, like, an authorized chant, you could say.

STIEBER: Yeah. I mean, the training, they focus on the physical aspect, or, you know, they say that's the challenging part, but then they slip all these psychological things in along with it.

JAY: Well, that's got to be shocking for you to hear that the first time.

STIEBER: Yeah. And so I started writing home to religious leaders at my church, saying what I'm being asked to do doesn't really line up with, you know, all these religious beliefs I had. And I would get letters back with explanations that I needed to have more faith in God, or this is just how the military works.

The common mindset was that Iraqis were always referred to as "Hajis" in a pattern he said dehumanized people, making it more difficult for soldiers to empathize with civilians.

Unless there is a recording of this alleged Jody, I call bullshit. If there is a recording - well then what I am about to say is wrong and I concede. But I call bullshit. Know why? Wrong number of syllables for a cadence. It wouldn't work for a marching or running jody.

The OTHER reason I call BS, is when I was IN the military there were some pretty rough jodies that guys came up with, none as bad as this "report."Those were forbidden by the command structure damn near as soon as they appeared.

yes too many civilians have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan - but the military does NOT train, or condone a cavalier attitude toward killing women and children. Those who think otherwise should get there heads out of their asses.

8. I WAS going to agree
So I decided I had to actually watch the interview.

He doesn't seem to be lying.
And there is a cadence to it, its just more complicated than a more basic one. If you listen to how he says it there is a natural rhythm.

If it is true its disgusting. War is evil, and so they have to mindfuck them into doing evil and not feel bad about it.

9. Agreed, the clip does seem credible. And the actions taken only add to that as well.

sentences fits the cadence perfectly. On the first one, remove "all" from the first sentence and "I" from the second and it fits with out having to speed the tempo of the words up (and still makes perfect sense).

4. Here's the thing-
People don't really want to kill other people. It takes time and training to make them really, really want to kill.

War has always been fought by the poor, for the rich.

6. Disgusting
I can remember saying some pretty stupid cadences...but nothing like that. That's just sick.

I assume they're using corrected grammar, because like it is, it wouldn't work very well as a cadence.

That's just sick! The mind bending necessary to do some of these things would be immense.

it's certainly not Christian, and as one he shoulda refused after finding out they sing such vile crap and then I'd go tell my pastor I won't be back because he's condoning bloodshed and sucks as a minister. of course, I wouldn't join them to begin with, so I guess his eyes are open now at least.

10. Need some answers
regarding the Apache video. How far away was the Apache from its target? It looked close, but I don't know what kind of zoom capabilities an Apache has. Was it far enough away so that the Iraqis were unaware that it was circling them? If they were aware of it, and the rules of engagement permit hostile action against armed men, the Iraqis would most likely have known that. So, if they knew what the intention of the Apache was, why didn't they begin firing on the chopper or scatter to the four winds instead of clustering up, milling about like a herd and finally all moving casually in the same direction? As for the Jody, that's pretty hard to believe.
