Andy Rooney made some remarks last week about the Billboard Top 200 and his belief that he is a "normal, average man." I took a few minutes of my own time to set him straight on both points. I have a lot of respect for Andy and have enjoyed his commentaries for many years, but as of late he's become more and more of a curmudgeon and less and less of a journalist engaged in the world about which he is commentating.
You can see the commentary I was referring to here:

3. Time for him to retire.
His observations have been pretty flat lately.

4. Retirement
You're probably right. No matter what stupid thing he says, CBS keeps him on because their audience is so old (the last time they pulled him they lost 20% of their viewers.) Still, wouldn't it be nice if he actually started to wake up and make an effort? He really does have an amazing wealth of experience to tap into.

5. Rooney is so far out of touch he is an anachronism. I too have
enjoyed him over the years, but it is time for him to go. But, then, I don't watch tv that much. Just tuned in for the oil leak report. 60 minutes did a good job on it.

7. Oil Spill
I agree. 60 Minutes did an amazing job covering the Spill. I usually turn the show off when Andy Rooney comes on, but came across his piece from last week on YouTube and was just dumbfounded by some of the things he said about how out of touch he is with the world. But then you look at his body of work over the years and its hard not to feel some sympathy for him, but he really should have retired years ago. CBS keeps him on because their older demographic is comforted by his presence and by a lot of the nonsense which comes out of his mouth.
